Coffee Shop / Engine selection for a Mod-X/CP build?
« on: February 05, 2013, 10:11:44 am »
I'm strongly considering building a Mod-X/CP and I'm trying to decide on which engine to go with?  Based on the max 20hp single ohv options out there, you'd think the choice is obvious but, after some research I'm not so sure. The three engines I was considering were, the Kohler 20hp (36.4 ci), the Briggs 19.5 (31.0 ci) and the Tecumseh 18hp (29.9 ci).  Was looking for any advice from some of you Mod-X/CP veterans as to why you choose the engine you did...

Thank you.

Driveline / Looking for some input on an ARMA JP Class driveline set up.
« on: January 19, 2012, 12:57:35 pm »
I'm looking for some input on an ARMA JP Class driveline set up.  I currently have an "H" pattern Indus Tranny with reverse and first gears removed.  It has a fixed 8 tooth sprocket on the output shaft. I know the Pearless 700 is the standard, but this thing is in mint condition.  If it doesn't work out, the bolt pattern is the same and I know what I'll need to do...  I'm running 8" rims with Turf Master 16x7.5-8 on a 3/4" live axle.  I know the 1 1/4" axle is the standard but, he's 50lbs dripping wet and will be lucky to reach 100lbs by the time he turns 15 based on his blood line!  I have a brand new 17hp Indian strapped to the front.  I'm planning on starting with a 4" pulley up front and a 6" pulley in the rear.  I'm trying to figure out what tooth sprocket to put on the rear axle to assist me in getting the required 8:1 ratio.  With both the tranny and rear axle sprockets being fixed, I realize dialing in the 8:1 ratio will come from the pulley combination.  Any suggestions?

Thank you.
