Title: Honda V Twin 18hp
Post by: Darkviper on January 03, 2013, 12:43:05 am
Today i saw Honda V Twin 18hp OHV. Its not one that has head and block as one peice. It has heads that un bolts. I was wondering if anyone has tryed one of these engines and are they good or not? I think it is older OHV V twin that honda made.

Liquid cooled?

Liquid isn't legal.

I don't care. If it didn't come on a mower it isn't legal either.

not sure there are much for performance parts for the honda v-twins.
I don't care. If it didn't come on a mower it isn't legal either.

you seem mighty quick to "not care" about letting him know that maybe there was a mower that used the horizontal shaft honda (same as many that used kohlers or vannys), or that there WERE mowers that used vertical shaft honda v-twins in an actual riding "lawnmower".

Should of been more clear.  I don't care to see pics of the engine.  Espically on a trencher.

I don't know what Honda engines came on what.  You need to convince the national tech guys.

I know if it is liquid cooled it isn't legal.

I know the Honda mower engines that are twins that i have seen were liquid cooled.

It needs to offered on a mower to be legal and Honda makes a bunch of small engines that never came on a mower.

Here I went ahead got mower information on OHV honda V twins. Yes honda made v twins for lawn mowers heres a pic. This is honda mower and what engine is on that is 15 v twin ohv honda motor vertical shaft. The one i saw on the Ditch Which 1820H walk behind trencher was a Horizontal motor just like you see on moveable industrial genoraters with the horizontal v twin kohlers on them. Heres simlar engine but newer still air cooled also used on lawn tractors horizontal 18hp v twin ohv.

Cool.  So I assume your going to put this in a FXT.

You can't put a horizontal shaft engine in a Chassis that was originally a vertical in the BP class.

You will need a billet flywheel for it in either class.

Chuck miller ran one, then he went to a vanny. Now he's running a kohler.

vertical shaft hondas are used on lots of smaller zero turns (riding mower) and are air cooled (legal) and can be sold as replacement engines for blown up inteks, vannies, kaws, kohlers, and indians for riding mowers... so whether is vertical or horizontal (seen some of those as repower kits in 300 and 400 series john deeres ie riding mowers) non liquid cooled v twins and you find or have a flywheel made for it yes they are legal... but with aftermarket parts availability being key factor whether anyone runs one or not is the biggest issue.

Who say anything about me running fxt? All i asked is if they were good or how are they because i see that GX390s are good. I was wondering how are they.
