« on: October 22, 2015, 08:30:38 pm »
I need to drill out the low side and I can't seem to fit the welders drills in there? Drilling from the top the drills are too short, drilling from the bottom the emulsion tubes and float/needle holder is in the way.. what am I missing?

Post your Pics! / New Holland Racer Build
« on: January 16, 2013, 10:13:01 pm »
Well I've been debating on whether or not to start a build post but decided to go a head and do it. Not many people have built New Hollands into racing mowers but I have seen a few Holland pullers. I have raced this mower last year but have it down to bare frame now for chassis strengthening and other mods. I will try to post as many pictures as I can and will try to have this project wrapped up by March. Stay tuned for more...

Briggs Flathead / which stock cam should i run
« on: December 17, 2012, 09:46:12 pm »
Here is 2 cams, the one on the left came out of a 40 cid engine and the one right came out of a 42 cid engine. Now the one on the right measures .280 lift but the one on the left seems the same but it has a casting line so it makes it hard to measure. The cam on the left (40) has a slope at the bottom of the lobe and the lobe is rounded at the top. The one on the right has a sharp milled angle at the bottom of the lobe and the lobe has more of a flat spot on top. I watched Don's Opposed twin DVD and he can tell which one to run just by looking at it so I hope someone here can do the same.

Briggs Flathead / Copper Exhaust..
« on: December 13, 2012, 07:50:52 pm »
Sooo i always seem to come up with crazy crap so here it goes. Me and a buddy from work were talking about how we are building up our Opposed twins for next year and the topic of exhaust came up. Me and my brother have made a copper exhaust on his Triumph using type K thick walled copper pipe and made it into a 3-1 exhaust system. That was 3 years ago. He has sold it but he says the owner keeps it polished and it looks great and sounds awesome to this day. He sees it every once in a while at car shows. I have done my homework and i know the melting point of copper is around 1980* and while running a stock opposed at full throttle (stock) the exhaust got to 1088*. No way near melt temp. I also know that it will get hard or some say it will get softer because of temp and exhaust doesnt mix well with copper but racing engines only run for about 30-60 mins a race day and kept in a garage most of the time. Using 1 piece from each cylinder at equal lengths going into a collector and brazing them together. Has anybody thought about doing this? I know theres better ways but im just throwing it out there  :werd:  :lol2:

Briggs Flathead / oppy engine placement
« on: December 10, 2012, 08:26:34 pm »
I've searched and can't find any post about running an oppy sideways where the Carb is hanging off the side. I run mine with the Carb sticking out to the left and after getting the fuel starvation thru the corners fixed by taking the bowl drain plug out and put a 6" tube in the plugs place so when I go thru the corner the tube is full of fuel that gets pushed into the jet ( adjust the float to) now I'm a little concerned about the oil slinger. The slinger also sits on the left so when I get setup into a turn all the oil goes to the right away from the slinger. I have ran this setup for 1 practice day and 1 race day and even though the engine got very hot ( plugs showed it was a lean condition from losing fuel through the turns) upon engine tear down I haven't seen any wear on engine parts since I had it apart last. Has anybody ran an oppy sideways? I'm building a splash and also picking up a 42 pressure lube that I will be building up for a back up when the splash gives out.

Briggs Flathead / Re-use rods
« on: November 28, 2012, 08:39:02 pm »
I have a 42 series 18 hp oppy that I'm rebuilding and it has some wear on the cylinders so I'm going to bore it .020 over. Now I mic'd the crank and its still at factory specs and so is the rods. What would the disadvantage of re using the old rods? I've seen people post don't reuse but don't give a good reason. I will be turning this engine about 4500K and may hit 5k from time to time and I will be running a billet flywheel. Also I'm trying to find Don's video for the oppy but can only find engines 101 or is that one for the oppy? It says for 8hp on up.

Post your Pics! / New Holland S8 racing mower
« on: November 20, 2012, 10:46:50 pm »
Hey everbody! Thought I would post a pic of my racing mower.I dont know the exact year of it but it is a New Holland S8 heavy custom running in ModX. Currently it has a 40 series 16 hp oppy full stock but for some reason in the feature I ran in 2nd gear and over rev'ed and over cooked it. It still runs but wont idle and pops alot. I just picked up a 42 series 18 oppy that im in the process of tearing down and building up for next year. Its a hefty mowchine weighing in at exactly 500* with me sitting on it. Im running a 700 peerless with a 1.125 rear axle. Big plans this winter with a new front axle ( currently stock but with go kart type steering),  strengthen the chassis for better handling and trying to loose weight,  not me the mower  I weight 150* wet  I always seem to draw a crowd when I unload it from the trailer and some people are amazed that I made it into a racer and not a puller. I just like the body is and the way the hood slops down. I think with a better power plant for next year and now we have to run billet flywheels it should get around the track pretty good. Thanks for looking and if you have any question just ask because im sure I will be bugging people as im new to the mower scene but not the racing world. http://m1307.photobucket.com/albumview/albums/Mowster1982/IMG_20121120_220854_zps43d055cb.jpg.html?o=0&newest=1 let me know if the link dont work
By the way thats an older picture so some things may seem off. I will have a better picture soon
