Chassis / George I need help.
« on: October 31, 2009, 06:16:17 am »
What length Hiems are you running on the front axle spindle? The ones I want to use for my axle design have a thread length of 1-1/2 " if my math is right I will run out of room. Iam looking @ the one from McMaster-Carr Part# 60645K161. Will EC sell me the correct length heims. Or will these work?

Thanks

Tires / 13" Tire axle center line
« on: October 22, 2009, 05:14:54 pm »
Am I right in thinking a 13" tire mounted on a 6" rim would be @ or close to 6-1/2" from the ground to my axle center line? I need to be sure for correct frame height. Also should I build in tolerance to stay legal with different tire pressures?
 Thanks for any input.

Are Hiems the same as rod ends?

Chassis / Front axle set-up
« on: October 09, 2009, 07:26:23 pm »
Will the same geometry work as stated in George's post "Understanting E.C. Dist. Mower Front Axle Geometry" in a chassie with offset built with L spindels and a 2x2 tube axle? Plan on 1-3/8" O.D. with 3/4" Bore I.D to hold the spindels to the axle. Can I fab this up non adjustable and set all the geometry as a good handleing mower?  I know I can buy axle set-ups but would like to go homemade.
 Constructive criticism is welcome.
 Hope this makes sence.
 Thanks,
 Zeus

Here I it stripped down for race prep.

    Side View.

    A better side view.

The aftermath.  For you new people (like me). It is not that hard to get to this point. I did it in a few hours with hand tools. You can do it so go for it!  I will post more pics as the build goes forward.

Driveline / Peerless Trans
« on: September 26, 2009, 12:04:58 pm »
Any way some one can tell me which common mowers ran the 700 series trans. I have some connections and want them to keep an eye out for them.
I bet there are a ton but any ones that are common now would help.
 Thx a Bunch.

Chassis / Brand new to mower racin.
« on: September 23, 2009, 07:04:17 pm »
I want to build a racing mower this winter. Wondering what brand has a good chassie to start with. And also where to find the regulations per class I can find on the internet.
I have fab equipment (mig and stick welder also torches and a plasma cutter and owned my own fab buiss. so fabrication is not an issue).
Thanks for any help you can offer
