Tires / Re: Rim width vs. tire height
« on: September 15, 2009, 06:41:01 am »
turfmasters are a stiffer tire than turfpros are. they are a heavier rated tire and wont roll as much so put them on a 6" or 7" rim. you will be fine. as far as competitve, all you can do is run dead on all specs in the rule book.

Briggs Flathead / Re: Over Bore
« on: September 15, 2009, 06:31:55 am »
you can bore it to the stock 31" ohv. thats about .125. if you have to use oem parts. you can run a 31" synchro piston and a stock 28"ohv rod. all parts would be stock from briggs and stratton. might need to resleeve.

Briggs Flathead / Re: Rebuild - No Compression - Leaky valve?
« on: September 15, 2009, 06:26:59 am »
if it snapped a rod, it might have bent a valve. with the breather cover off the side, check the backlash on the valves. flatheads are .004-.006 between valves and tappets.

I can get the kart for 100 bucks, after some searching today it seems like a good investment just for what the axle and hubs would cost me,
it would be sold if it was offered to me for $100. there is your rear axle, hubs, cassettes, rotor, brakes. everything for the back. front spindles, steering components. you can sell the frame and make some money back

if you cant get a bigger crank pulley then either go to a straight axle with a transmission so you have another set of adjustments with the sprockets or you can possibly run a jackshaft or double pulley setup in the middle with different sizes to multiply your ratio.

Driveline / Re: Gear ratio question
« on: September 09, 2009, 08:02:36 am »
how long is the track you run at and what gear you want to run in? probably gonna be about a 36tooth. but i would change to a bigger drive sprocket with a hex adapter for quick change reasons.

Tecumseh Engines / Re: porting, and saving the head
« on: September 08, 2009, 07:27:00 am »
so when saving the head, i want to get the valves to fully open as close to the head as possible w/o hitting. Correct?
if you're gonna upgrade the cam later on in that engine, i would be careful about shaving the head too much. i would just true the head or cut maybe .020 max, work on porting, you get more power that way. and of course like was said earlier, a good valve job.

i would run a 4 or 4 1/2" tranny pulley, what tooth is your sprocket thats on it?

i would almost be partial to a rat rod rustic looking paint job. like a burnt orange flat paint with some flat black and then put a chain steering wheel and skull shifter. :P

Tires / Re: Metric or American bolt pattern
« on: September 07, 2009, 03:22:15 pm »
you are checking straight line and to properly gauge you would have to check bolt circe( easier with even #lugs). have you figured out what thread the bolts are? that might give you a hint, and what are they off of?

could anybody tell me how to stop breaking rears. i have put my 4th one in this month i am tired of switching them out
DONT go 4-wheeling, DONT change gears under load, DONT snatch it in reverse(if you have it), DONT drop the clutch on it at full throttle.
i think that takes care of the answer part. also your pulley setup could be putting to much stress on it. like an 8" pulley to a 3" pulley.

1st thing i would do is read the rules for the group you are planning on racing with. 2nd is pick a class. then you will have guidelines as to what you can do.
