Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 38 Vanguard
« on: August 31, 2013, 07:07:36 am »
Do ARC make rods for the 38 ci Vanguard. The piston pin appears to be 18 mm whereas the 30 and 35 engines have a 17 mm pin.

Briggs Flathead / Engine mount lug
« on: March 15, 2012, 02:58:03 am »
Had an engine mount lug break off and leak all the oil out on a 28 flatty. I was told I should only use three bolts to hold the engine down. But which three? I intend to replace the sump. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Coffee Shop / Thanks !!

I recently completed a build on a 16HP V Twin Vanguard and I would like to, through this forum, thank the businesses and people concerned for the quality parts supplied. These include: ARC, Precision Cams, EC.
Also thanks to the people out there who willingly share a wealth of knowledge on here.

Briggs Flathead / 28 Flatty build
« on: May 13, 2011, 04:16:31 pm »
I am currently building a 28 flatty. I have decided to use the AVS crank, rod and piston. I have ground the PTO main journal down to fit the flatty pan. I have done a trial assembly and apart from a few slight rod to block clearance issues it looks as though it will work. I am trying to build an engine that is a bit stronger than stock using stock parts.
Has anyone built an engine this way? Some general feedback would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Kohler Engines / CV 16 Kohler

Is there any advantage in converting the hydraulic lifters to solid on a stock cam. The engine has no other mods except governor removed.

Post your Pics! / Hydrostatic Race Mower
« on: July 24, 2010, 09:05:10 pm »
Just thought I would post a few pics of my hydrostatic race mower. It uses the swash pump and hydraulic motor from a commercial zero turn mower. Its performance I regard as mediocre but I have won a few races on it. The pluses- Totally bulletproof, virtually no maintenance. The minuses- heavy and the swash pump is a work in progress to make it more efficient.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Briggs Clone
« on: May 30, 2010, 03:41:49 am »
Just bought a mower with what looked exactly like a Briggs Intek OHV engine. It didn't have a fan housing and it had a Briggs 21 cube rocker cover on it. I checked some numbers on the block and it turns out it is a Hisun engine made in China. It is 31 cu in.  Some one has bolted a Briggs carb and manifold on. All the threads on the block are metric. There were some subtle casting differences which initially aroused my suspicions. It runs really sweet. Does anyone know anything about these engines. Are they any good?

Just bought a mower that has a Peerless MST 206 in it. I believe they oil filled and are they any good for racing? Any help on this would be great. Thanks.

Briggs Flathead / Briggs camshaft
« on: May 16, 2010, 08:22:19 pm »
Got given a camshaft that is perfect for the 13 HP sidevalve engine I am building but don't know what it is out of. It has a thin gear with big slots in it the same as an OHV Intek but has the same lobe profile and orientation as a sidevalve and no slot for an oil pump drive. The lobes are splined on same as an Intek. Any ideas?
