Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: TIMING QUESTION
« on: July 05, 2013, 03:54:57 pm »
I set up 2 arc flywheels and the timing came in at 39 degrees BTDC with full retard on the ARC hub.
Here is a note I found in my research. I believe it is from George Heren but not sure.
Every OHV I have seen thus far had the coil offset from where it is on a flathead.
The first OHV I built I degreed the ARC flywheel in. At full negative using a stock key, it was around 39 degrees BTDC, which is way too much.
Hence the reason a lot of guys are breaking the cranks on OHV’s.
I have yet to see an OHV where the coil wasn’t offset.
Not saying they doesn’t exist, but all the ones I have laying around are offset.
Something to think about guys!
Good Luck
