Coffee Shop / Buyer beware!
« on: February 17, 2015, 09:52:06 am »
I've been into mower racing about 6 or 7 years now, and have built several mowers for myself and others. I don't have a machine shop, or the knowledge to use one, so when I need the latest and greatest speed parts I buy them. One thing that I've found is there is not too many places you can buy them from, and some of them are flakes!. Some of the parts suppliers don't take anything but full payment up front (no credit cards or paypal, leaving you no recourse if something goes wrong). When you order parts from them, and are promised they will ship by a specific date, and it doesn't happen- then they can't be reached by phone, email, or carrier pigeon, there is nothing you can do. If these guys were in any other business they would have dried up and gone away a long time ago. This is not to say there not some good suppliers. Some answer their phones, take credit cards and paypal, and do what they say they will. The flakey ones, for some reason, still have supporters and defenders who will tell you the flake is busy, or doesn't feel well, or moving, or........  If you are going to order parts, do a little research, and try to order from someone who runs their business like a business. If you see post after post of people trying to get in touch with a supplier (anyone know why so in so isn't answering the phone-I've trying for weeks to get ahold of him) go some where else. The best part or hottest motor, in the world won't do you any good if you can't get it.

I'm pretty sure George started to build one on one of his builds, and gave up on it

My experience is they (at least the Peerless ones) are pretty much bullet proof, with belt, or chain. Much stronger than any 700 type trans. I may regret having said that

When the check was cashed a month ago, and you can't get in touch with him- that's not expecting something overnight

Tom- There is some stuff I'd like to get from Ron's. He seems to have a lot of people think he has great parts, but there always seems to be someone on here trying to get in touch with him. Maybe one of the guys who lives close by can help out. I think Will English is one? It seems to me there are a lot of guys in the parts biz, that have trouble doing what they promised.

Coffee Shop / The most money I ever made with a mower
« on: November 27, 2013, 09:03:37 pm »
Earlier this summer I rented out 2 mowers to a production company for filming an episode of STORAGE HUNTERS, which is a really bad show on the TRU network. They picked up the mowers, and a day later I went to the shoot and got them back. This is one of those auction shows, and they wanted to "find" a couple of racing mowers in a storage container. If your interested it's supposed to be on Tues Dec 3rd. It's a crappy show, but it paid really good.
