Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Briggs model 282h07-0334e1 15.5 ohv

That's a model 28 and it's an AVS motor (Anti Vibration System). You'll need an ARC #6280 rod and use the stock piston. You'll need the ARC #6561 brass crank weights to replace the AVS system. It's a tricky deal because some of the older cranks have the removable eccentrics, the newer cranks may have to have some machine work, OR just buy the ARC #6562-C crank. Then you'll need a cam....I suggest an E.C. Cams #400-276 for a basic decent running cam. Then you'll need a flywheel and hub...ARC #6611-AVS for the flywheel and ARC #6611-AVS for the hub. You can use the stock ignition coil I think, but for that flywheel you will need to use the Briggs starter #845759. Don't forget a set of valve springs from E.C. #260, clean up the intake and exhaust ports for better flowing, leave the stock rockers on it, set the timing respectively you'll have to re-jet the carb, run a full exhaust, not just a piece of pipe off the exhaust port (this is where so many people mess up)....then you'll be set for a nice running motor in the 6000RPM range. I'd advise for you to put that kind of money into a 31 or 33 model motor to get the most out of your money. Good luck and have fun!

Hello Joe, thanks for this thread. I saw you run in Gun Barrell City this past weekend. That was a nasty spill you took. Very glad to see you were o.k. It was nice to see a thread I have been fallowing and the machine on the track. Look forward to meeting you again i the future.

Thanks John. Didn't break anything, but at 4 days since the hay bale incident, I'm still pretty sore. As for the machine, well...it didn't fair well. Broken steering column, bent steering wheel, bent spindle arm, bent hiem joint, broken off fitting in the front right brake caliper, badly bent axle....but a whole slew of amazing people came together to help put this thing together and make it race ready in less than 40 minutes.....it just blew me away! I got out on the track for the feature (wrecked in my heat) and took 2nd, then in the 2nd feature (double header) I placed 1st. All goes to all the amazing people....it still blows me away.

Bruce, Joe Hopkins here. I'll be at the Gun Barrel race on the 1st. I'll actually be there on the 31st. Will practice be permitted on the day prior (31st)?

Thanks,

The Turf King 750 came with a GX390 and the Honda RT5000 and H5013 both came with a GX390.

Not many come with a horizontal shaft motor because of obvious reasons.....it's just cheaper to use a vertical shaft for mowers.

The first pic shows the different mounting holes for the return springs. That is required to pass the USLMRA and probably all the others!

This passed our LSMRA rules the way it is in the pic (unless it got passed our tech guy...and he did check for 2 springs). I guess I'm not understanding AL, I'm sorry. I would like to be 100% sure my return springs are correct because I will be racing in the USLMRA national race in Gun Barrel in April. Would like to be sure I'm legal so I don't have to work on it beforehand!

Thank you sir for pointing anything out.

Here you go man. That 90 degree lever is the original choke lever that was originally bolted to your intake. See the second pic. The throttle cable comes in from the left side of the mowchine. Hope this helps!

What do you need to know?

A free flowing air filter (but cost $$$), a small timing advancement with a timing advance keyway (but cost $$$), custom built exhaust, but to do it right, you must research how to do it to make power (but yet again, cost $$$)....use a thinner oil perhaps? Use 100 octane race fuel ($$$)....use a thinner head gasket to bump up compression a bit ($$$)....

Not really much can be done to make more power without spending any sort of money. Leave it stock and work on getting the chassis right.
