Driveline / Re: pulley heating up
« on: April 23, 2013, 03:52:22 am »
Does the pulley have paint on it? I had the same issue, no screeching but pulley was super hot. It was also a 1/2 belt in a 5/8 pulley. I sanded off all the paint in the groove and used coarse grit to cut some scratches in it and its worked perfect ever since.

I ran a 5" to 4" pulley setup with a 700 behind an 18hp opposed for 4 years on some pretty rough tracks. Ran a 2 pulley twist clutch and never shifted while moving. Never had a single issue with the trans and never rebuilt it, so it is possible, just not recommended.

With a bigger pulley on the motor, you overdrive the trans like Paul said, which reduces the torque going through the box. This also allows you more freedom on the rear axle to play with ratios. 1 tooth difference on the trans sprocket has a much larger effect on your final ratio  than a 1 tooth difference on the rear axle.

I saw two of the three nuts that secure my front left wheel and hub together fly right past my head going around turn 3   luckily the last one held long enough to get me off the track safely

Chassis / Re: Various Stock frame widths and wheel base
« on: January 25, 2013, 12:40:41 am »
I couldn't agree with ya more George on pretty much every point. It a nightmare trying to find a frame that is usable for these classes, and once you do find one, it takes a ridiculous amount of time and money to get that frame to a state that is raceable. Just like Bob said, pretty much every FXT or supermod out there is built on a custom frame and disguised as mower frame and like you said, there is no real competitive advantage to it.  I get the whole sticking to the roots of the sport by staying with a mower frame, but honestly by the time the they are finished, the "stock" frame has nothing to do with them resembling a mower because you cant see the frame.

I have also always wondered why the original F/X class was allowed a custom frame but the new "top tier" classes arent

« on: January 06, 2013, 08:58:08 pm »
all that time building the stand , man id just build another mower haha

Trust me, the time and energy you'll save not lifting the mower up on a table or taking it down is well worth it. I take this to the track with me and it it's been a life saver. By the way it only took a weekend to build  ;)
