Coffee Shop / EC carburetors work on 4-wheeler carb??
« on: February 06, 2016, 10:25:58 pm »
Looking for someone work on my 4wheeler carburetor.    Would EC be able to work it?   Only thing I know about the carb is that it's a Mikuni.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Roller Rockers 31cid
« on: September 30, 2015, 10:29:54 pm »
I am currently running a Gteam built 31cid and have done very well this season.    I am looking to upgrade to ECs roller rockers this winter.    What performance changes should I expect?   Will the valve lash be easier to adjust and will it stay more consistent?    What about the valves, should I change them out as well or leave what Don has on there?

Tires / Rim cutting valve stem
« on: April 20, 2015, 10:12:44 am »
Does any one else have a problem with the alum rims cutting the valve stem?  The tubeless stems have a shoulder built up but the stem on a tube is just straight and I am having difficultly keeping them from being cut by the rim.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Need help Identifying Vanguard or Intek
« on: April 08, 2015, 10:28:25 am »
A fellow racer bought a mower a few weeks ago.  The original owner told him the engine was a Vanguard.  Here is what is on the valve cover.   407777  Type 0121 E5   I personally think its an intek but I'm not smart enough to prove it.  Looks as if the tin could had been a Vanguard or is the valve cover of an Intek?  Just to clarify this isn't an argument between us at all just trying to get to the bottom of it.

Driveline / Browning H-Series Hub & Pulley?
« on: March 25, 2015, 12:37:31 pm »
I have heard of and seen some pictures of a what I was told is a Browning H-series Hub&Pulley.  What I saw looked like the hub "clamped" onto the input shaft of a tranny or an output shaft of engine for that matter and the pulley attached to the hub by two bolts.  This looked like a great setup rather than just a clip.  I have searched the web and came up with a Split taper bushing but I don't see how it attaches to the shaft nor can I find any pulleys that attach to it.  If anyone has any guidance or additional help I would very thankful.   Just for the record I need the hub for a 5/8"Ø shaft.

Non-Affiliated Races / Race @ Smokey Mountain Raceway in Maryville, TN???
« on: October 01, 2014, 03:27:25 pm »
I am wanting to check to see if anyone has heard of a race at Smokey Mountain Raceway in Maryville, TN near Knoxville on October 11th??  I was told about it by one guy that lives in that direction and I went to the website but no mention of a lawnmower race.  They are having what looks like a big event with monster trucks and a demolition derby but again no mention of lawnmowers.  I realize the mowers would be a filler for an event like that so that's why I'm asking here.  Surely someone here is involved in some form or fashion if indeed a race would be held at that event.

Coffee Shop / 110 Octane racing fuel
« on: September 29, 2014, 02:56:03 pm »
What is the consensus on running 110 octane fuel?  Just to be clear it is legal at this race and for clarification I'm running a built 31OHV single that turns 6K.  I didn't know if anything needed to be done additional above what already has been done to the motor/carb or if they are benefits at all with running 110.

Driveline / Shiftable 700??
« on: September 20, 2014, 08:09:47 pm »
Let me start off by saying this is NOT first hand but I have been informed a fellow racer has a had a shiftable 700 built.   Is it possible to have or make one or is this a unicorn?  I know the shifting forks are the weak link but is it possible if so how?

A lawnmower race is scheduled for Monday, September 8 @ 7pm as part of the Washington County Fair in Abingdon, VA.  I just became involved with coordinating this race within the last month or so because the board of directors over the fair came VERY close to cancelling the event all together due to lack of participants (about 10 or so).  I know it is a Monday night that is not ideal for me either but I'm just playing the cards I'm dealt and I need some help.  If anyone out there is interested or know of other mowers please let them know.  I have contacted Rebels & Rednecks in NC and Pam is going to check with some of her racers.  Please help me show them how many mowers they have here local.   I have done a lot of "shoveling" and they have told me IF I can get a good showing at the fair that they would give me a Saturday evening/night for just mowers next year during the year aside from the fair.  The track is less than 2 miles off of Interstate 81 very easy to find and not way out in the woods somewhere.   Thanks guys for your help and support, I need all I can get.  Never done this before but sometimes you just got to step up if you want to keep racing. My info is in my profile if you would like to get in touch with me.

Driveline / 700 won't stay in gear
« on: August 03, 2014, 07:50:23 am »
I picked up a used peerless 700 as my first rebuild project.  It's a knock off "Topac" sold by EC.  The previous owner did tell me he changed gears while the mower was moving.  The problem is it won't go in gear IF you happen to get it in gear it pops right out.   I've read the sticky about building a 700 several times.  It mentions the gears must have sharp corners.  Never having torn one down what should I be looking for?   Shifting fork problems? Rounded gears?  With it being originally sold by EC I'm hoping it should be race prepped internally.  Let me know what you guys think, thanks

Tecumseh Engines / Tecumseh Starter Brushes & Rebuild
« on: June 25, 2014, 09:55:54 am »
I am a recent convert from a B&S engine.  I done some horse trading for a 17.5 OHV Tecumseh with the understanding I need to work on the starter.  The starter drags and I would like to rebuild.  my question is am I wasting my time and money putting a brush card in it or should I just go ahead and purchase a new starter.

Driveline / Need help Identifying Transmission
« on: June 05, 2014, 09:41:44 am »
I'm sorry for asking such an elementary question.  But can some on identify this transmission?  This is NOT my mower but one I have found for sale.  The owner told me the transmission "slips" so I asked him to send me a picture of the id tag/sticker so I could research but the MFG. Topec threw me a little.
