The engine is probably set to go maximum 3650 RPM ,any more than  that you need an aluminum flywheel  I had a stock flywheel on a small block Chev that got to about 8000 RPM before it exploded and ruined the engine and lots of other things If the flywheel explodes it could kill you or someone else

If you want to rev it higher you should buy an  Arc aluminum flywheel the stock one could explode and kill you .Then the connecting  rods will be the next thing to break and should be replaced with Arc billet, they are good for 12000 RPM but we have tested them higher than that.Valve springs and retainers will also have to be stronger

I understand.I have a friend who raced with a club but he made his tractor go lots faster than the other guys in the club so they didn't want to race with him because he made them look slow so he left them and started his own club with other guys that wanted to go fast and that club is still running.

A 38 cubic inch vanguard  would be my choice ,they rev high and make lots of power and have heads that can flow lots of air with not much porting

Check the CCs of the heads so you can figure out the compression ratio then you might take up to .100" .You might have to flycut the pistons for valve clearance and if you use a higher lift cam it will be closer <if you have race gas or alcohol you can run near 14 to 1 compression ratio  Intek heads don"t flow well it would be better if you ad a Vanguard 38 cubic inch with 23 HP heads probably good for about 75 hp at 11000 rpm

The EC springs and retainers will work fine and you should do a performance valve job and maybe some porting while you are working on the heads also machine some off the surface of the heads to help the compression ratio

How did you get 4000 on the governor? It is a wonder a rod has not come out already. As for the heads you will need better springs and retainers and if you put a higher lift cam in it you will need to take the valve seals off and shorten the valve guides

The piston is down way too far to have much compression, like he said go with  the longer rod,13 ccs is almost half the ccs of a stock combustion chamber .

If you don't put better rods in it you won't be able to rev it to where it can make some power,The stock rod are probably good  for about 4500 RPM and you will need to run it almost twice that high to get some power out of it,more compression makes more power too so you should mill the heads, then you will need a better camshaft too.The 23 HP heads are some of the best flowing but they need porting  and better valves springs and retainers. The stock rocker arms are not much good for racing either

Back when 352 and 390 fords were popular,if you had a 390 and the pistons were still good and the cylinders needed to be bored i would get a 352 block and bore it .050 and fit the use pistons to it. It was like having a standard bore 390 block but with no wear.

I wouldn't be afraid to use the old pistons give them .002 to .0025 , I have done it lots of times, why did he say not to use them?

Make it  close to the head bolt holes, keep it back about .025" that way the heads will fit on any block even with the largest bore possible,I was going to bore a block and not use sleeves and get the bore chromed .

We used stainless wire and cut to  length ,we did try copper and it worked too

We never found anything that worked except a copper head gasket and O ring the head,we never tried to O ring the block only the head. It is easy to do,set the head up in a four jaw chuck sharpen a tool bit the shape you want the O ring and tun the lathe by hand .I think the wire was .021 and it should stick out of the groove about .012 to .015"

Polish the end of the crankshaft, the rust and stuff on there won't let it go through the bushing in the case
