Title: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED
Post by: George Herrin on March 20, 2009, 08:37:15 pm
Well I have begun to build me a NEW Super Modifed. Its gonna be a slow build. It is legal for ARMA in 09 one of thier new classes. IT will be legal for the WOO candian club. I plan on going up their at least once a year. I mounted the rear axle and an adjustable wedge I want to to try to use. Not sure If I can or will but its there for now. This will be an unconventional build, as per ARMA sanctioned class build in 3 ways. It will be 2" off the ground, 42" inches wide and have an offset of 4" meaning center of frame to left outside sidwall 19" and right side 23". It will have a vertical motor, 700 trans, standard type clutch and for now I will use mowers tires on the rear and Kart grooved on the front. Below are pics of the start.

as you can see the axle and wheels on to double check hieght

Here are the new wheels. I am not 100% liking the hub. Reckon I will get with Carroll about making some beefier ones.

This is a look from the rear. 1.85" ride hieght. Not much but its a start.

Front axle beam is on finally

thats probably the frames original factory sticker, cuz that frame probably came with a hydrostatic type tranny that he swapped out...

looking good george! ive been lurkin around on the boards for a few days now, and im definitley a fan of what you and everyone else on this board have accomplished!!!! Rock on! :rocknana: Have you concidered doing a suspended mower? i dont know if youve ever seen a quarter midget but the suspension would transfer over very niceley, axle and all.(http://home.jtan.com/~joe/race_cars/schlauch_4.jpg)

MTD Varidrive
I have seen quarter midgets very nice rides. We are not alloweed suspension on ours so that has never been a thought.

George,
Looks good, like the wedge idea!  But concerned with the bolt for making the adjustment.  I don't think that bolt will take the abuse.
Heres an idea.  Make a cam for the wedge to hold the wedge in place and make a positive locking handle.   Like a shifter type.  Move the handle that goes into a slot and can't come out unless you unload the wedge and pull the handle over.

I assume you are planning on adjusting it on the fly is why you are using a bolt.

Just a thought!

Paul

No worries I scratched the idea of using it on this chassis My size required a seat so wide I don't have room for it. I am going to applyi it to another chassis I am planning. The leaft rear has the least pressure. It worked on a dirt kart well with the bolt. I know there is a difference in weight and trak types but I think it will work. Just no on this chassis.

It  is looking good need some more pics I know you been working on it lol.
Have to tell you George you do do a great job building them.
You know I am so impressed with your build after racing it with you, that
I am building one from your build form. I hope it handles half as good as
yours did. Course I won't have a Indian under the hood, wouldn't mind it
but won't fit the budget. Hope things are good at home take care.
more pics though and advice
Thanks

Thanks Rusty...It was a pleasure having you drive it and racing with you. You ain't half bad. I promise if you follow my build it will drive well. And tech advice is free. So if ya get stick just holler. Remember a GOOD chassis will make any motor look good.

As for my build I have got the seat cut into the fenders now and will get pics tomorrow. Havn't been working as hard as I should been under the weather a bit.

Post by: George Herrin on March 27, 2009, 08:39:22 pm
Well I have the fenders cut for the seat. It isn't high quality work, but I ain't no metal worker.
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00019.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00019.jpg)

A view from the rear you can see the section I added in 4" wider than stock now.
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00020.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00020.jpg)

Here is the right side gonna be lots of work making it look like it was done that way But its coming along. Have to cut bend form and weld then smooth it all in an effort to blend all the pieces into one.
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00021.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00021.jpg)

Well as you can see the motor is backwards. Front end is on and steering is working. Got to get the column up and over the motor now.
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00022.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00022.jpg)

The next two pictures shows how the axle and steering is setup. Yes I like front steer plus the exhaust is gonna wrap around the rear of the motor.
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00023.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00023.jpg)

Here is what will be facing me. Will be different thats for sure....Still a long way to go.
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00026.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00026.jpg)

I have realized I will not have room for a mechanical belt clutch. SO I have a EC billet clutch and can't use it and need a Star centrifugal clutch. SO now I gotta come up with the funds for a centrifugal clutch. Still planning on using a 700. Least wise thats the game plan for now.

How many of those chasis you got laying around, with all the mowers we have we ony managed 1 of those and it was missing the grill!

George, I run a Star clutch to a 400 peerless on my F/X and NEVER had any problems. I like it if we race a smaller track, I just change gears. Most the others are changing their rear gears on the axle. (PAIN IN THE BUTT)

How much room do you have between crankshaft and 700 input shaft? Only reason I ask is, You know I run a relatively small chassis which I utilize RAGB with a mechanical clutch. If you could switch to a RAGB,then you can down size on your front pulley which should allow you enough room to run your mechanical clutch.

Ty a RAGB would do the trick BUT I don't have one either I have two actually but even between the two I don't have enough for one good one.

Well, looks like we will be finding out if a 700 will hold up to a clutch with a twin. I know the canadians do it but everyone here has always said it would NOT hold up. Good, finally a moment of truth. Thanks George.

a 700 with what type of clutch. we run a foot clutch and dont have to many problems as long as you have the steel gears in the tranny.

As a founding member of Fat Boyz Racing (along with George), we may be the only 2 racers who truly understand the principle of "road-hugging weight".

And Scott, just so you know, you have been nominated for incarceration, er, I mean inclusion into Fat Boyz Racing. The initiation process includes, among other things,  supplying George and me with several dozen jelly-filled doughnuts in Oshkosh, WI before the ARMA points race. You will also be required to find George some fresh "grits", a rarity in northeastern Wisconsin.

Well Me and Jake did a bit more. I been building in my head the whole time its been sitting and I ain't been doing nothing. So this didn't take very long at all to do. I already did it several times in my head. Anyhow the steering is done 1/4 turn full lock both ways and very smooth and easy to turn. Below are some pictures of the steering.

Here is the latest progress. Added a 3rd rear axle bearingsince I did not have rooom on the left side due to the size of the seat to accomodate my REAR end. We basically cut a pheonix kart up using the rear bars and rear bumper. Was gonna use a gear box that Ty from up north sent me but they were too tall. LArry came thru with a peerless But its aleft hand SO i am gonna make  a shaft. But we are at least making progress. Finally.

Good to see you added that third cassette. I'm glad I added it to mine, made the whole rear axle setup much more stable. Now hurry up and the that thing finished so i'll actually have somebody to race 8)

OK We got somemore done to the Super today. Thanks Larry ole pal for stopping by and helping out some. Gotta give the deck credit to Larry. He is pretty slick when he wants to be. As you can see we got the decks mounted and used the chute so it looks real. I wanted it to look like a mower to some extent. Also the support for the ride side of axle has been added.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00235.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00235.jpg)

As you can see I used all the space available between the tires this is full lock and still have a lil room. This will eliminate wheels inside of wheels while racing and offers more room for the feet.

Hear is underneath so far. I ran a brace from side to side and nothed it for pulley clearance then filled it in with a flat piece it will also serve as a belt guide

First time out of the barn with everything in place except the power plant. From gear box to the rear bumper I am happy with and done except for some finsih welding and body work.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00245.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00245.jpg)

The lense is in the shop but it looks mean just sitting there. I love the stance. Used up bout all the kart stuff. Still need some side bars but in due time.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00246.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00246.jpg)

Chain gaurd came out real good. First Used some thin card board to make my templates. Then transferred to the aluminum. I welded mount tabs behind it and will get some button head bolts for it later. Its all done bolted in place.

More of the Kart parts back here cut the bumper and narrowed it a bit so it wasn't off center. Then put a small bar at bottom to close it up.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00247.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00247.jpg)

The next few pictures me and Jake tried in on for size. Its not a one size fits all. Well this one might be for the most part cause it has such a large seat to accomodate our wide beehind.

It will go where ever I go next year. My game plan is to allow some to take a ride to promote the class. I figure with the seat I got in it most can fit it for a couple laps...

HAHA...I didn't know they had em that big either. It was a special order that had to order extra plastic to fill the new mold they built just for me.... It won't be ready for finals. However after this past weekend all I like is master cylinders (2) add motor and wiring and build an exhaust. Don't have a centrifugal clutch yet... Funds are depleted. I am planning a regular manual clutch to get it going. So in essence all I really have to buy at this point are the Master cylinders and clutch.

Jack I wear my additional weight. Traction is not something I generally have an issue with. I do not have the race tires for it initially it will use the turf pros. I do have a set of hoosier slicks I may try IF i have it running by the All American. I plan too have it ready one way or another.

16x7.5x8 turf pros on 8x8 wheels. I also have a set of 15x7x8 hoosier race slicks on 8x8 wheels for it for those smooth tacky clay tracks.

Did some more work. Added a dash thought it would look good. I think it does.. Plus gives me a better spot to mount some things.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00268.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00268.jpg)
Used a hub with a quick release one we sell at work. Makes it easier to get out by removing the wheel and laying it on the dash.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00264.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00264.jpg)
Here ia another view of the steering wheel and dash in place.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00266.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00266.jpg)
Well me and jake built the exhaust today. We ran up to the shop (EC) and we learned how to use the tubing bender together.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00267.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00267.jpg)
Here is a bit closer look at the headers as the come off the heads.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00269.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00269.jpg)
As ya know the motor is in backwards so the exhaust comes out the left side of chassis then forward to the front and around the motor.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00270.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00270.jpg)
here is a view from the front. Nothing left except a collector. Not to shabby least ways me and jake like it.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00271.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00271.jpg)
Here is the shot down between the legs. Fuel tank is mount there, air filter tucks in there nicely, although I somehow missed my measurement when putting the cross bar in which has the tank mounted to it. I had to raise the engine 3/4 inch for the filter to fit in right. BUT it made making the exhaust bends off the header a bit easier. Anyhow nothing left but clutch (manual) not centrifugal, wiring it up, collector on exhaust, mounting master cylinder and pedals run brake line, and fuel lines. Hope to race it this weekend for the first time.

Well we rode it today put prolly 30 laps on it Jake got to ride first. And I went second. Shaft from ragb moved a bit worked on that!! Ratio was good but belt was slipping. Went and bought a 4" the 3.5 wasn't gonna get it on the motor. So we re did that. Had an exhaust leak and found a flange hole had broke out so have to change heads in the morning. Even with the belt slipping though keeping the front on the ground off the corners was a job. And this was on grass. But for a first day it was good even with all the lil  issue's. But was a good first test.

She isn't finished. Been working on it since 6am motor is off and exhaust is done that is something that requires total disasembly to remove now. Motor has to sit down on it. But the things we do for fun.

Jake is in love he likes how it gets sideways. He would make a hail of a sprint car driver he loves the sideways stuff. Says he likes slick tracks it an advantage for him... LOL

Yes it is Tim. If you need a closer picture let me know. Itsis finished now except nerf bars and little stuff. We put several laps on her today no belt slipping now. We ran a tank and half of fuel thru it with no issues well rolled a belt finally but we got it very hot yesterday with it slipping. But all in all no issues at all. Went to take some pictures but batteries were dead.

Ok new pictures since our test runs last weekend. Here is the business end what the driver see's.

Here is another view of it

Thanks to Carroll/EC for the nerf bars. Had some left over from chassis he had built years ago and said get me some. SO I installed this one tonight. Will Get the other one tomorrow night mounted on.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00276.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00276.jpg)

Here is the hood with a few stickers on it. Still have to have the EC Stickers for the sides of it made. Thanks Larry and Jeannie for the new Design.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00279.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00279.jpg)

The front end looking down on it. Mounted the number plate on the bumper and now has the lense in it. I think it looks really good. But thats just me.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00281.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00281.jpg)

The next two pictures shows the exhaust and how/where it exits the body. Thought it would create a foot/heat issue but doesn't.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00282.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00282.jpg)

Here is the view from right front side of the extension/jack shaft of the ragb. Solid 3/4 shaft which was actually a 3/4 axle out of a transaxle. We cut it down and added another keyway

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00283.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00283.jpg)

Here is the belt setup you cannot see the engine pully. I will get a better picture in the day light. But due to lack of room I used a sinlge pulley clutch. I had a EC clutch plate that one side was stripped so I whacked it off and made this clutch. It is also operated by a cable not a linkage rod. No room for a rod.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00287.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00287.jpg)

Here is the spring going otu towards the rear. Showing how I put tension on it.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00289.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00289.jpg)

Here the back side of the chassis as you can see it shows the rod with nuts so I can adjust belt tension easily.

(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/th_DVC00290.jpg) (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f232/GeorgeHerrin/?action=view&current=DVC00290.jpg)

Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED
Post by: George Herrin on October 29, 2009, 06:16:15 am
Yes single pulley clutch. Its working so far. Belt tension is more critical with a single pulley. Been many a year since I tried this setup. I was so limited on space is why I tried it. Plus I didn't want it to pull the belt off the engine pulley. Its a TSC 4" and I am using a 7 which came on the ragb. Its a true 1/2 belt pully belt is flush with outer edge. The engine pulley rolls out at 3.4" even though its sold as a 4 but being an A/B pulley and a 1/2 inch belt it sits deeper.

Well the maiden race was good and bad. I have no video but it did not like the hi9gh spped of a real track carb issues and a broke stock rocker arm at 8500 rpms Friday in practice (MISSED THE GEARING JUST A TAD) But worked on it got er going again, better run well drives like a dream. OEM carbs are coming off tillys are going on and that should wake this thing up.

yup George things went pretty smoothly sunday considering the amount of racers.... i do have a few questions on the super mod chassis, i will be using a step through chassis, my questions, the last 6 or so inches of the chassis in the rear is unboltable, can we remove this and fabricate averything rearward, where the rear axle mounts and seat mounts?? the wheelbase has to remain stock?? and if we use a horizontal shaft engine, where does it need to be posistioned in relationship to a vertical shaft engine?? thanks, gonna get started on this project pretty quickly, will be asking lots more questions i can imagine....

Post by: George Herrin on November 10, 2009, 08:45:45 pm
No technically you cannot fabricate the chassis. What I did was mark the chassis around the front section cut it off and weld it together instead of bolting and I cut the rear section flush and level with the front of the chassis bottom.

Thats what I am talking about. I will say this they are the most fun I have ever had on a mower. Hands down no if ands or buts. You can't turn one over, mine lost the right rear at top speed and just spun out. It don't get much safer than that. Just think had a regular chassis lost the right rear at that speed what would have happened.

BY FAR these things are the most fun and safest mowers to drive. You grow a new confidence driving them, bc you don't have to lift going into a corner, and you know the chassis will handle it.  :D  I almost got myself in trouble going from my super mod twin to the super sportsman.

Hey George, since your like the only person ive seen running a vert super mod, how close is your crank to the ground? have you had any issues with it being so low?
Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED
Post by: George Herrin on November 12, 2009, 07:27:12 pm
Nope none what so ever. Its 2 " off the ground. Same as the frame. Engine is 3/4 up off frame on 3/4 tube. No iussues what so ever.
Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED
Post by: TeamScoot on November 12, 2009, 08:29:43 pm
alright cool thanks. Do you think that putting the motor down that 3/4" and cutting the crank to keep the ground clearance, would be worth it, to drop the the CG? or is it just a waste of time?
Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED
Post by: George Herrin on November 12, 2009, 08:36:16 pm
I did that for two reasons, exhaust and crank clearance. It isn't high enogh to effect the handling enough you would ever feel it. The overall C/G is so much lower than anything we have ever done, AND I can always put this motor on anything since the crank has not been cut.
Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED

I would think the center of gravity is all ready lower on a vertical shaft motor, versus a horizontal shaft motor. So raising the vert. motor 3/4" it would still probably have a lower C/G than a horizontal? The one thing I was wondering is how much power do you loose going through a 90 degree box? Is it worth going out and buying a horizontal shaft motor if you already have a vertical shaft motor?
Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED
Post by: jerb on November 13, 2009, 09:58:41 pm
thats a good question old goat, been wondering that myself, i dont see running a ragb any less effecient than running a jackshaft, and vertical engines are so much easier to find as well as cheaper, if i dont find a horizontal soon i will be using a ragb on mine as well....

Well I don't think that there is any more loss of HP thru the ragb than there is over the sideshaft going thru the jackshaft. it all robs hp to some extent. My biggest issue right now is carbs and issues. After tearing the carbs down yesterday I found all kinds of shavings in the jets from drilling the vents out Friday night at the All American in the dark. Its running right again but tires is still my down fall since I cannot put it to the ground as well as someone with the good dirt tires, that will equalize on some tracks and be a down fall on others. As for the center of gravity, mine is as low or lower than one with a side shaft. Thats not why I went with it, I did it cause I had it and wanted to be different. Once its dialed in and carbs are right asnd tires are hooking up it will be as fast as any even if doubted by some. I am having fun driving the thing. Gonna build a single over this winter using a 13 hp 390 motor. It will be a hot stock nothing fancy. That one will use a jack shaft BUT its a matter of having the motor already OR it would be a vertical too.

Post by: fordman21 on November 14, 2009, 08:55:59 am
The vanguard guys prefer the horizontal engines mostly because of the oiling system, and the crank shaft is 1.25" shorter/lighter and they have ball bearings on the pto side compared to the bushing in the pan of the verticals. The other advantage is that you can offset the engines a bit more,  building headers isn't as hard and usually there is more room for carburetors too.
You can make any engine work, I don't think there is any more loss of hp through a RAGB than a good jackshaft set up its self, but the chain drive might be a bit more efficient over a hot belt, I'm sure the difference is minimal.
I glad to see more interest in the supermod class.
George your new supermod is a real nice looking machine.

Thanks Ryan even though its not finished it does impress quite a few. First question asked is why a vertical motor. But regardless it gets the job done and I am happy with it. Its no different than any other new machine, gotta work the bugs out. Even though this one does not have as many as some I have built. LOL

Here it is compliments of Arron Turner in action running bad too, but still getting the job done.

George, im doing a steering setup similiar to yours to avoid buying expensive u-joints, my question i notice your steering shaft is at a bit of an angle to make it to the center of the axle, do you think keeping the steering shaft straight would cause any problems, i realize the up and down shaft that connects the steering shaft to the bell-crank would not be straight up and down, but would this cause any issues...thanks

No I doubt it. Look at the angles of a standard box frame when you come off the bottom of the steering column to the left front spindle arm. Its also at an agnle and wroks great. Same principle so it should not matter

If you was to use a 700 you would want to use the gear that was direct, so for example a 5 speed 700 lets say third gear was 25 and 25 wouldn't that give you 1 to 1 or as close to it? If so ok I got that much wouldn't you want the input shaft to turn faster than the motor in order to turn the 12 tooth sprocket faster or is their another factor I am missing  :bash:  I know you know what your doing thats why I had to ask
Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED
Post by: birdman_express on March 27, 2010, 07:49:34 pm
or is their another factor I am missing  :bash:

Yes, 25/25 does not give you 1 to 1 in a 700, you have the input gear and bevel to go through.
Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED
Post by: George Herrin on March 27, 2010, 08:47:08 pm
Think of the transmission as a gear reduction box yet it has different levels of reduction. NONE are 1 to 1 so we over drive it to get speed. With the ragb its 1 to 1 which is faster spinning that the transmision so we under drive it a bit or depending on tire size we run 1 to 1 with 6" wheels.

overdrive tranny underdrive ragb starting to see whole picture now, and you'd be proud of me done a SEARCH and 25 and 25 gear would be more like 3 to 1 in tranny sorry for my confusion  but hay supermod gonna look great

Well here it is done. Run a few test laps broke a roker stud run a couple more worked on chain run a few more  and to say that I am satified with this new motor is an under statement. Its WICKED. Here is what she looks like... Gonna rinse it off and start loading then REST I am wore out.

Had I not missed the gearing a tad yea could have drove it deeper BUT the track was also pretty dern rough especially in turn 4 once I realized I didn't have to run real hard I started moving around looking for a smoother line.
Great ride George looked like it handled well.

Yup handled quite well for just a static setup..
George that video turned out pretty good.

Yea I was impressed considering it tiny size and no wires etc etc.

Oh Ed its a Gopro wideangle motorsports camera not even the HD model just a 139.00 cheapie. Easiest thing I ever used...

So would I be correct in that the camera stores the video to an SD card, then from there all you need to do is download it to a computer?
I have been thinking of getting one for a while now just to mess with, problem is I dont know if it will hold up to seeing Bert's ugly mug once a lap without breaking the lens.

Mine turns down between my shoulder blades, (race wear I think) Can't remember got it at APS Karting. Won't use any other. Never even had a sore neck and have had some serious head landings and had the ole head hit a time or two directly while on the ground.

getting ready to build one of the super mods for next year. problem is that all of the ragb i can find are left drive. can i use one offset to in front of r.r. tire with proper bracing and fab work to drive in the same area as right drive units?
Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED
Post by: fordman21 on October 06, 2010, 05:04:35 pm
It wouldn't be a problem in WOO, our rules are very similar but you might want to check with an ARMA official.
It might not be a bad idea, you could probably keep the chain a little shorter that way, and not worry about seat clearance as much.

George, was wondering what you aand some of the other guys are running for a final drive ratio, i was leaning towards a 7.1 final ratio, am gonna make my front sprocket easily changeable, will have a 12,13 and 14 front sprocket with an 8'' on ragb and 5'' on engine....was thinking of a 54 rear sprocket for a 7.2 final ratio, any thoughts on this! thanks....

Thats with 8" tires with a 50" dia

What am I missing? With a belt clutch and a RAGB, how do you get a neutral when your not depressing the clutch?
Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED
Post by: fordman21 on October 18, 2010, 10:05:35 am
For the guys that aren't using centrifugal clutches,  in our club you would make a lock for the clutch pedal to hold it down so you can push the machine around like it was in neutral.

George- I know you said you are running a clutch cable- but I don't see any pedal. How do you engage, and lock the clutch?
Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED
Post by: George Herrin on October 18, 2010, 08:35:43 pm
I am runnoing a centrifugal right now. I can switch to pedal in about 10 minutes or less. The pedal has a hole drilled thru it and the pivot mount. I press the clutch and stick a pin thru it. Works great. I went with the centrifugal because I let others ride it and its easier for them to take off.

thats the plan on mine, using a twist-pull clutch till i can afford a good cent clutch, but im gonna leave all the foot clutch components on there and just use it as a tensioner!
Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED

Mine is so close (56") belt I use just one pulley. It is also the tensioner when using the Centrifugal clutch.

I am getting ready to build me a super modified and I was wondering if it had to be an offset chassis or can I just build the chassis straight up with both wheels equal spaced like we build regular chassis?
Title: Re: NEW ARMA Twin SUPER MODIFED
Post by: George Herrin on November 15, 2010, 10:48:46 pm
The rules states 42" max width. IF you use offset then its specific in the measurements center to left outside sidewall 19" and center to right outside sidewall 23. So if your not using offset the it has to be equal measurements from center of frame to both sidewalls. It does not have to be 42" wide it is the max allowed.

I guess I didn't understand it this way. I am building a supermod also. So I am building it at 20 on the left and 21 on the right. This would not be ARMA legal?
