I like the composite idlers they seem to have better bearings in them
been using them for years with only one going bad

maybe go back to the rigid mounted idler might be getting too much backlash when you get out of the throttle with the spring loaded idler.

I have a 26 hp kohler command
The problem is when its warmed up and need power it pops out the exhaust and boggs bad.
I checked the spark and put new plugs in it did leakdown test and it checked good  did compression test cold and hot both checked good   cleaned carb checked fuel flow everything checks out
did i miss something???   it has a smart spark module could that be bad??

well i tried the stock pumps and ran out of fuel on the top end now with the pumps i got from ec it seems to flood on the bumps in the corners never had it happen in the straights on hard bumps yet.
but my tether switch just crapped out today maybe that was the problem  guess i will find out at the next race.

Ive been having the same issues with mine,  not severe but it kinda dies for a second on hard bumps.
I got the 17.5 carbs and this started when i put the new fuel pumps on,  could it be over pumping the needles and seats.  ive changed them twice with new ones with no change in performance.  or do i have the pilot jets drilled too big or maybe have a vent plugged??

8hp briggs is real lazy coming out of the corners i have the billet flywheel i'm lucky if I get up to 3,500 on the tach. and with the same gearing that i had last year with the stock flywheel performed better. does anybody have any ideas i can try to make it better. my motor has stock valves and the baby 48 carb and a 212 cam.

Briggs Flathead / Re: Tricks for valve springs!

I use a c-clamp lookin one for automotive and just use a socket to take up the difference.
The automotive ones are a bit too big but work.

The 28 single carbs use the rubber tip needle with the metal seat and the all metal needle with the seat with the rubber insert.
Dont know if the opposed carbs came like that also?
Hope this helps.

Since I built this new motor it has had this problem.
The old motor had a isky #3 cam and stock valves but with double springs.
New motor has an ec precision cam and ec stainless valves with new double springs and ec retainers.
