Briggs Flathead / looking for more torque off the line 16hp briggs twin
« on: January 06, 2015, 02:38:59 pm »
i have a good running 16hp briggs twin, but compared to my 16hp single cyl. briggs the twin is very slow to accelerate but has great top end. i tried pully swaps but then i lose top end. i know there must be a difference in torque from the single to the twin, but is there any way to get more ooph off the line? maybe jetting? tried the search, but i'm not sure exactly what to look for.
also it's a 1980 or 81, i'll get the ser. # if needed

Driveline / sears gtv16 help please
« on: June 22, 2013, 12:07:44 pm »
augh, it's a varidrive :bash:  i know nothing about this set up. it has a briggs twin 16hp. i got the tractor for free, mower deck was seized and full of holes, and it didn't run. i completely redid the fuel system, rebuilt the carb and cleaned out the fuel pump, and it now runs. doesn't drive well tho. it barely moves. i changes the rear end fluid and belts, no change. is there an adjustment procedure to adjust this setup? i'd like to make the set up work instead of replacing it. any and all advise is welcome.

hi everyone, i have an 81 (i think) case xc 116. i got it not running with a rotted and seized mower deck. i put a new coil and plugs, andrebuilt the carb. it's a fun little tractor, i reduced the trans pulley so it's just a back yard racer. after being put into the trees this fall, i had to swap out the front axel, and welded in some foot pads. foot throttle is next. i've never done any fabrication like this before, but it's fun. any suggestions are appriciated  8)

Driveline / peerless 800 questions
« on: December 08, 2012, 01:39:32 pm »
i have a case xc116 with a peerless 800, 5 spd, i think(i'll go check soon). i changed the pulley on top of the trans from a 5 1/2 incher to a 3 1/2 inch. do i need to worry about how fast it's spinning? it makes quite a whining noise. i'm thinking i should change the solid grease to 80 or 90 wt. i'm totally new to this so any advice is appriciated. thanks
