Kohler Engines / horse power identification?
« on: January 07, 2013, 12:11:18 am »
I have a v twin horizontal shaft. No stickers on the engine to tell what size engine it is. Is there any other identifying marks or numbers to tell what size it is?

Briggs Flathead / 56 walbro on a stock 12 hp flatty
« on: December 10, 2012, 07:40:38 pm »
for some reason my stock 56 carb on my stock 12 hp flatty, with out the breather on, trying to start it up the carb is misting fuel out the back side of carb. I did however remove the choke and choke plate. that is it. govenor is hooked up etc. I was working the throttle by hand and choking by hand.

I have been all threw this carb with berrymans carb cleaner, compressed air and a wire to go threw the passages best I could. it also has the preset plastic float and has the rubber tipped float needle.

any ideas? thanks.

took off of grass cutter cause it wouldnt go down on the rpms. I figured the govenor went out. Is it worth anything as a whole or as parts?

I did already take the carb off of it cause it was a 56 walbro. but thats it. the motor started right up, didnt smoke nothing.

thanks.

I decided to ask here instead of in the other persons build thread.

On the steering, rules say that it has to go threw the original hole in the frame. Ok thats fine, but mine is like a 5 in hole. it is where the steering box went through. Can I weld another plate over the top of that to put my column bearing on? I know this sounds stupid but just wanting to make sure. Again I dont have a camera to take pics of what I am talking about so I hope some one knows. thanks.

Coffee Shop / what is the easiest way???
« on: October 22, 2012, 02:34:19 pm »
I have to redo my front end cause I did it at 16in with no 10* caster. Well I am running stock 15x6x6 front wheels, and they are hitting the frame left to right. And I was going to buy an EC front end and in a way I am glad I didnt cause they are 16 in. Unless I am doing something wrong, it too would have caused my tires to hit the frame as well wouldnt they? So I am thinking of makeing another front end, 22 in across with 10* caster.

what is the easiest way to measure the 10*? I have an old huff/rugg frame just like Squidds in the "another ap question" thread.

thanks.

I was cutting some square tubing for my mowchine (with cut off wheel) and was cutting against the turning of the grinder. And the metal pinched the cut off wheel and the grinder jumped out of my hands and got wrapped up in my shirt. Was so bad I had to rip my shirt so I could get the grinder off of me. I didnt get hurt or anything but was lucky as heck. So note to everyone else, make sure you are cutting in the direction of the wheel so it dont jump and tear you up. my shirt is ripped just above my left nipple down past my left rib cage.

Wish I had a camera.......lol

On the EC tranny plates for the 700's, can you make them wider to fit customers needs or do we just weld in say 1in square tubing to the frame to weld the tranny plate to???? My frame is 14 3/4 wide. outside to outside. And if you can make them wider how much more would it cost? thanks.

Coffee Shop / is this legal???
« on: October 14, 2012, 12:05:06 am »
I couldnt find it anywhere in the rule book and I know the rules say if it itsnt stated it isnt legal.

But I am trying to strenghten my steering, I have a bearing block at the top, but no support at the bottom. What I am asking is can you have a 2 piece steeing column? basically top part bigger than the lower part and bolt together, or a peice of tube over both pieces and bolted together? cause with the column the way it is now, I cant slide it out with out cutting off the bottom bell crank or my steering wheel hub. the steering wheel hub is made from 1/4 steel and it is welded on. That is why I want to make it 2 peice so I can slide it threw the bearings and bolt it together.

If my kid hadnt broken the camera I would have build pics by now. but I dont.

Briggs Flathead / older style 8 hp briggs
« on: October 09, 2012, 05:36:42 pm »
ran fine with the stock old style one piece carb. took that off and put a 56 walbro on it with the short intake and I cant get it to run with out the choke on. usually when that happens there is some trash in the carb. but I have cleaned and ran wire threw and blew air threw, etc. I did cut the little nipple off the backfire solonoid. this is pull start only so it really sucks...........lol

will the 56 run the 8hp or is there too much gas? also new plug, good compression and air gap set correctly. and yes the gov is hooked up. Pain in the butt but it is.

Coffee Shop / freebe stuff today
« on: October 08, 2012, 11:59:55 pm »
went to a friend of mines today to look at his Dixon zero turn mower. Which he broke the drive sprocket for the hydrostats, got to get that part ordered tomorrow, also has wore out chains.. need to replace those also.

Any way he had a trailer loaded down with what he called scrap iron. So I went over and got to looking an there was this old style mower deck. And it has a ragb on it. also had a 18 hp twin kohler engine on a older huskarvarna (sp) but it didnt have a deck, also was getting ready to load up a complete, bagger and all, 2002 white(mtd) 42 in cut hydrostat. I know the hydro isnt for racing but it is a nice mower, he said it just needed belts. I will have it ready for next year to mow with.

All of this for free for changing out the drive sprocket, which he is paying for on the dixon, and replacing the chains which he is paying for.

so to me that is all free...............just a little time.

just a quick question, will a left hand gear box work like a right? just flip it over? thanks.

Coffee Shop / how does one get started to have a track?
« on: October 08, 2012, 12:34:17 am »
what I mean is how would one get started to have a track and have it sanctioned? the reason I ask is there is a guy here in town I just found out that has/had side by side mud races. well he dont do that any more. So the side by side is just sitting. It has bleachers and guard rails and even a anouncers tower. On the other side of that, he has enough room for a track to be put in. He has plenty of parking space, pit area, even vender areas. But dont have much for electrical hook up. So most would have to be on generators.

Would I just approach the guy and ask hey do you want to race mowers? I really think he would probably laugh at me. Or should I try to get him to come by the house, show him this web site and some of the builds and some of the videos. I could show him the rule book and a few other things on here. But the main thing is to get him convinced to let his property be used.

then there would be the cost of getting the track made, keeping the grounds clean and mowed, getting more bleachers made etc.

basically if anyone has helped or set up a new track area if they can help me out and give some kind of idea on how to get set up I would appreciate it. thanks.

Chassis / bell crank for steering control

what thickness should this be? I made one from 1/8th in but seemed like it would bend too easy. But I dont have 1/4 thick plate as of yet.
