Non-Affiliated Races / Any interest?
« on: June 09, 2014, 05:10:20 am »
Just wondering if there is any interest in running on a 1/8 mile go kart track. It is located in Akron Indiana. About 2 hours north of Indy, 1 hour west of Ft. Wayne and maybe little over 1 hour from the Michigan state line. We are insured with the NKA and have plenty of room on our facility. My family and I took over the Akron Speedway last year and We would like to put something together this year but need to know if there is any interest first. I have been president of the Mow-Wheelin Racing League for the past 2 years and would like to grow this sport more in Indiana. Please let me know your thoughts or concerns on this and what it would take to get you here. Thank you.

Honda and Clone Engines / 390 carb question
« on: May 23, 2012, 05:07:24 pm »
Having issues with a carburetor that has me wanting to  :bash: this thing. First off its a 390 .020 over, mild cam, with a blillet flywheel. The carb is a .925 bore from AGK. Having problems with it dumping fuel out the vent and running rich. I've checked and cleaned this several times, changed main jets out and emulsion tube. It also wants to fall on its face coming out of the corners but comes to life after its on the top end. Everything I have tried has not worked. I can put stock carb back on with a main jet change and it runs flawlessly with a good plug reading. Any ideas whats going on?

Does anyone know what's going on with this place? I just talked to Tim awhile back and now I need parts. His number has been disconnected and his website is gone. Heck he told me he bought the race track in Corbin Kentucky and everything was going good.

« on: August 12, 2011, 11:36:53 pm »
Putting my cylinder head back together after buying stainless valves, pushrods and rocker arms. They sent shims with everything, 2 thin and 1 thick brass. Any ideas which spring the thick one goes under?

Driveline / Short track gear choice
« on: April 06, 2011, 10:41:53 am »
I need some input. Running a very short track with maybe a 80ft stretch to a hairpin and back to a sweeping left. Last year I ran a 7.87:1 final with 16in rears. This year I'm running 13in rears. Wasn't pulling alot of rpms at end of straight last year. I'm considering keeping the same gear on it but also hace a 7.57 gear and a 7.28. Any advice where to start?

Chassis / Craftsman chassis flexing
« on: April 04, 2011, 12:28:06 pm »
After taking a pretty good roll late last season my chassis didn't fare to well. It twisted, but in the right direction. The left rear didn't have any weight on it at all. I ran it one race after that and the left rear tire was a mile off the ground making it a handfull. I noticed when I lift the left rear it is flexing behind the front axle. I can lift up on the right rear and it is stiff. I could probably drop the right front spindle down a little and put some weight back on it but my question is where can I add some more bracing to stiffen this thing back up a little. Just trying to get some other ideas other than mine. Thanks

Coffee Shop / Prayers for the Powell family
« on: March 01, 2011, 08:24:33 am »
Fellow racers we need some prayers sent to the Powell family. Matt and Cindy lost their home to a fire yesterday and have lost everything. Right now the only thing they have are the clothes they were wearing. I will have more info later on sizes of clothes for them and their 2 daughters if anyone can help. They have a lot to deal with right now and could use all the help they can get.

Coffee Shop / Thinking about changing rear tire size.
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:28:42 am »
Last year I ran my craftsman with 16x7.5x8 rear tires, with a basically stock gx390 and a mini cup clutch. It was usually a top 5 runner if it stayed on all fours. It just seemed to be working the clutch awfully hard with the big tires on the rear. It has crossed my mind to run a smaller tire on the back, like a 13x6.5x6. Thought this might help off the corners and not work the clutch so hard. Other than a small tire in a big fender well does anyone else see the down side of doing this? The motor ran strong last year and thanks to Aaron Turner building his Montgomery Ward its going to have to be stronger this year. I guess its the "racer mentality" in me to keep up. Any advice will be considered. Thanks

Coffee Shop / Indiana Blizzard!!!
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:29:16 am »
Here in Northern Indiana we are under a blizzard warning. They are saying 18 inches of snow and 30-40mph winds. Work was cancelled tonight, which isn't a bad thing, my 45 minute usual drive probably would of been hours. They say its suppose to last untill Wednesday night. Not sure if it really calls for a blizzard warning or not. When I think of a blizzard I think of a couple feet of snow or so. Hope it gets better soon, so we can pack up and head south to Alabama next week.

Other Engines / Cutting a gx390 block for a starter.
« on: March 21, 2010, 03:30:33 pm »
After looking around forever for a block that is already punched out, I think I might just have to machine mine. This motor is getting harder and harder to pull and its time for electric start. Has anyone ever done this before? It doesnt look to hard, just time consuming in tearing motor down, doing the machine work and rebuilding it again.
