Title: Heck of a time finding an oil filter

Here's the motor, 20hp Vtwin Tecumseh. I've tried Tractor Supply Co., Fleet Farm, Harware Hank and Wal-Mart every one only has a Tecumseh Filter for up to 17hp. Will that fit this motor or do I have to order up a special one?

Post by: George Herrin on September 24, 2007, 08:03:08 pm: Walmart brand 4967 works on any briggs or tecumseh motor that uses a filter. Been using them for years and no problems what so ever. Or the fram 4967 At walmart any of those with the 4967 number will work.

As long as I have your attention, I was planning on running full synthetic? 5-30 or should I go heavyer?
Oh and is the capacity 2 quarts?

BRIGGS, TECH, KAWI, HONDA and so on don't even have a cross reference for aftermarket filters.....they want you to buy OEM!!!

It's people like George and other outdoor power equipment service people whom have learned over the years of what aftermarket items replace OEM.

I think Briggs gets close to $9.00 for a OEM oil filter......I won't even talk about the outrages prices of KOHLER OEM parts!!!!!!

Post by: George Herrin on September 24, 2007, 09:52:57 pm: going on 9 years now I been using nothing BUT Walmart brand full synthetic 5/30 or 10/30 which ever they have on the shelf when I get there. Turning motors as high as 11500 with no oil failure's. And Walmart brand filter's 4967. And yup capacity with filter is 2 quarts. Oh I don't recommend 11500 for any motor. But mine did live!!!

Post by: jeffescortlx on October 08, 2007, 12:09:54 pm: I went ahead and installed a FRAM Tough Gard 4967 from wal-mart. It threaded on fine, but I noticed the filter can it's self is a little smaller in diameter then the original filter. I'm a little worried about the rubber oil seal, only about half of the seal ring touches the base of the filter housing. I went ahead and filled and started it, it did'nt leak for now. George, are the filters you use the same way?
