Kohler Engines / Re: 18hp CH 2 barrel

The 2 Barrels were only on the 30 hp motor both vertical and horizontal.  That intake and carb will bolt up on 18 - 27 hp commands.

There should be a kill wire running to the coil.  I don't believe that engine has a smart spark ignition.  You should be able to ground the wire to the coil to shut it off.  That engine is the same displacement as a 12.5 Command but there is a stop screw in the carb to prevent the throttle from opening completely.  If you take that screw out you have a 12.5.

You can't just remove the balancer like a Tecumseh. The balancer gear drives the oil pump. MSC makes a replacement shaft or someone with a lathe can make one using the factory gear and fabricating a shaft.

And the balancer in the Kohler won't like high rpm either.

I bought a John Deere STX30 with a 9 hp Command Single.  It is the same as the 12.5 Command but the carb had a throttle stop that only allowed the butterfly to open about 3/4.

I believe I have one for the 5/8" shaft in the shop.  We drilled and tapped a second set screw hole 90 degrees from the original set to get 1/4 turns.  I'll check tonight and maybe save you a few bucks.

I don't know the max bore on the smaller engines but the 25-30 blocks can be safely bored to 3.307.  The actual original bore is 3.27.  I have a 3.307 bore with the 3" billet stroker crank for a total 51.5 cubes.

The closed chamber heads are from the 30hp motor. That engine is also the one with the two barrel carb.  The combustion chamber is heart shaped on the closed chamber head.

So how much are the 491/493 blocks worth?  I have run across them in the past.

Ted, the show on the beach side is a drop in the bucket.  The big show is the entire infield of the Daytona Speedway.  It is a HUGE show.

I haven't heard anything.  I was with the group in the booth a couple years ago.  We got alot of attention and fielded tons of questions.

What do you plan to do with it?  I don't know of anyplace you can race it on a mower.
