Briggs Flathead / ARC rod,bolts
« on: February 15, 2007, 09:27:48 pm »
In my 28ci flathead I have an ARC billet rod.
I was looking up new bearings for it on there web site and noticed that they offer new rod bolts as well.
Are these neccesary to replace, like a cars head bolts would be?Or are they just offering me an oportunity to loose a couple.

Briggs Flathead / 12.5 CRANKSHAFT PROBLEMS
« on: October 08, 2006, 07:15:37 pm »
Ran are last race for the year last week.Had a good day up untill I broke the crankshaft in my S.P. (28cu flatty)it broke just under the flywheel, and spun like a top for about a minute.Fortunitly it is still intacked thru the motor and does not appear to have damaged anything esle(besides the fan shroud)Didnt even hurt the coil, just bumped it back a tich. The motor is free and ran at its best just before. Is this a fluke thing,or are these cranks week here for some reason?Or is this a balance problem?I am running an ARC rod and counterweights AVS piston G-TEAM camshaft and a well ported block. But I am running the stock flywheel yet with no advance. The motor runs very smooth, but could an undetected vibration cause this?pleas advise,as I said earlier this was the last race for the year and I am ready to rebuild (31cu) for next and would like to prevent this if possible.TB

Im racing a SP with a 12 hp b/s, about 4500 rpm on a 1/8 mile oval, can any one give me advice on camshafts? would precision be able to work with me over the phone enough to get what i want, also regarding ARCS new brass syncro substitute crank weights,Has anyone noticed a power advantage yet,in rpm response? had a guy remove counter weights last year and try to ballance out the crank, spun up like crazy but could never get it balanced enough to keep the tin on the thing, i asume the brass weight are ballanced out good?
