Ethan
 Please start a new Thread.

This thread is about pulley sizes relating to an 820 Transaxle in a governed class.  I'm sure that any number of folks here will be happy to help you out.  Nothing personal against you but this was Brians thread

Hey Brian is this by chance the 'full race conversion kit' I keep seeing on Ebay every so often?  And does the guy also sells the 820 peerless and advertises it as USLMRA ok?[/

I wanted to try to catch a couple PALMRA Races this year  (USLMRA Rules)  Why, am I stretching the fender rules a little...  I can actually span the gap with out the addition of the fender tips,  it is just shy of an  inch ( I actually measured it this time) Only reason I was going to add it was to preserve the lines of the fender around the wheel (don't want to lower fender any more than I have already  to meet the floorboard) and also to be able to better blend the area where the footboard is welded to the fender. Its mostly for aesthetics, and I know it sounds silly on a race mower, but I like very clean lines. :P

Briggs Flathead / Re: Carb question.

Save Youself the aggravation. :bash:
What you would spend in Hard cash and your time as well as blood, sweat, and really good curse words,  Buy a Tecumseh twin that comes stock with a dual carb setup I believe it is the TV-671 (I'm sure some of our resident numbers gurus will correct that part number if it's not correct). I'm not trying to talk you out of using the Briggs but from a money and time standpoint it just makes sense, otherwise just stick with a single carb.

I scratched my head on that little problem for awhile... I don't want to raise the footboards being that I'm 6'5" I already eat my knees when I'm on it   So what I'm going to do is use the ends (about 2 or 3 ") off another set of fenders i have laying around and weld them to the existing fender ends.  When I'm done you won't be able to tell it has been extended it will look factory and will even bolt right up to the foot boards only way to tell would be to whip out the old tape measure.

No New Pics Yet...Sorry
Had to switch gears and get the house ready to sell....amazing how much stuff needs to get done but it's all for the best. The house my wife and I are looking at has 2 car garage and a 20' x 30' pole barn in the back yard.  Finally I might have a real work shop/place to stay when wife gets peeved at me over how much I spend on Mowers

When it comes to the words Mower and Racing in the same sentence, George, Obnoxious is a beautiful thing... ;)

As for what is going to be in it, Look in the left corner of the pics there is a 44 cube Briggs v-twinn peeking out.  Just buttoning up the last few things on the chassis and then on to the motor, which I hope will bring me to a new level of obnoxiousness.. ;)

Yeah I was kinda Thinking that too.  I like the main chassis section silver and all the body panels an obnoxiously bright red.

I can remember sitting in math class many a moon ago pondering ridiculous algebraic equations and endless division and multiplication problems.  I uttered the phrase on more than one occasion "Gimme a break Mr. Schwartz When am I ever going to use this crap."  Never thought I'd be using "that crap" to make a racing mower now.  The moral of the story for you younger guys, and maybe a few of us older guys,  is: Pay Attention,  you may use 'this crap' when and where you least expect it.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: NOISE FROM UNDERFLYWHEEL
« on: May 01, 2007, 03:31:52 pm »
Sounds like the armature for the alternator is rubbing.  Pull the Flywheel off and check and see.  I have had pieces of the magnets break off and lay up against the Alternator and flywheel.  If everything looks good check for bare metal rub marks on the flywheel side.  Good Luck

Ouch!!!!!!  Wow I got off lucky with the bad rings.   Like I said you don't know what your gonna get.  When I do buy them I try to make sure that the price of auction plus shipping doesn't get to be more than I could part the motor out for.   Looks like you got the horror story.  I'm gonna guess their waranty didn't cover that ....

Some of you may have already found this EBay store Mel-Co This guy lists return and waranty engines that sears wants to unload.  They are mostly v twin briggs engines ELS Inteks,  Regular Inteks and some vanguards.  The catch is that you don't know what is wrong with them until you get them.  Could be a carb that needs tweaking or bad rings or in some instances a thrown rod (rare from what I understand).  I just received a 44 cu inch Intek that I put on a test stand and started right up.  It had bad rings.  But for the $51  I spent it was worth it.  Most of us will replace rods and pistons and flywheels anyhow.  It is a good source for the basic engine on which to build a good motor.  Definitly worth looking at.  Just thought I'd pass it on to you guys.  Here is the address for these guys.         http://stores.ebay.com/Mel-co
