George I just watched the videos and the build video . I agree the proportions look good but I'm quite sure they have 10" wheels and the seat leans way back like a go cart. There using American racer tires like we ran on micro sprint's that's actually what I used on my super. They do look good

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Valve lash problem
« on: December 15, 2013, 05:28:39 pm »
Did you cut your valve guide's down far enough and also check for coil bind. Be sure you have enough cut away in the lifter galley. A 373 cam usually needs a lot of cutting. Your problem sounds like a Clearence problem somewhere. Also if you cut your heads a lot your push rods might be to long and check your rocker arms as well where they rub the valves I ran a 373 at one time and used lash caps. Hope this helps

George do you have a picture of a cyclone?   I said vertical engines are easier to find not to build. The way the driveline is setup its simple.  A horizontal probally would have to use a jackshaft but I don't think that would be a big problem.  We would love to come to some different tracks but as you know the problem is the cost of traveling gas ,rooms , etc.  George I would love to let ya take some laps in one they are simply a blast.  I did really like my super but I can honestly say I think I like this better.  I'm not trying to promote these cars I'm simply just saying how much fun and safe they are.  I enjoy comments for improvements we are simply just trying to keep the costs affordable and the car simple.

Chassis / Mini Late Models

Just thought I would bring up some conversation about the mini's they were in another topic here and some interesting things were being said and I enjoyed reading them.  I personaly race a mini and love it and best of all its safer. Don't get me wrong I like racing mower's as well I just fell safer in a mini.  As to looking disproportioned I have to agree but they were designed to be cost effective, 8" tires 16-750-8 lawn mower tires all the way around. Vertical shaft motors are easier to find and easier to set up the drive train. The stock class runs inteks only because there cheap.  As far as the chassis its very similar to a mower grasscar front axle with an arc rack pinion steering, Rear axle is live just like a mower build, ragb is used with a star clutch. The biggest difference is 48" width and the wheelbase.  I personally think they would look better with 18-10-10 tires on the rear but our rules don't allow that. Anyone can start there own club and change the rules to suit them such as bigger wheels and tires even racing tires . As far as a horiz shaft it would be tight but I think it could work.  What I can tell you the modified's are a blast to drive they light the tires up all the time you have to pedal the throttle and that's what I enjoy.

Over the years they kept improving the intek . The first ones had junk rings, weak rods, but the biggest problem was a very poor air cleaner system. I think this will be a great grassmower engine that's what its designed for but they should have called it a super intek it still has poor flowing heads but I do like forged crank and rods and a high torque starter. This motor will save briggs a lot of warranty money they should have done this a long time ago.

Tires / Re: Wide or Narrow????
« on: December 13, 2013, 03:09:21 pm »
Ron,  I'm glad to hear your thinking about getting back in racing. Supermod is the way go and stagger is your friend that's the easiest way to make them turn nice.  Like George said depending what organization tire has to be the same size. I ran 10" dia wheels on mine because I could get micro sprint tires cheap most everyone is using 8"   The last time I seen you was at Phatbottom but you weren't racing at the time. I don't run super anymore I went with a mini late model and love it. Its safer for an old man like me :D

There are many variables in these changes. Every chassis and driving styles are different such as cross weight, side weight, nose weight, caster,  camber,  lead,  tire pressures and widths,  To answer your question the right front will probally have more pressure and when you turn left depending on caster it will apply more pressure and sometimes that can make you tight. That why you need a test and tune day at the track

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: v twin gearing
« on: December 06, 2013, 10:46:20 am »
First thing it depends on how big the track is !  If you going to run a stock cam & springs it probally wont turn much over 4000 anyway.  Like George said you might get run over in the fxt class.  To give ya a quick answer most run closer to 7 to 1 again that depends on track size and tire size.

Kohler Engines / Re: V twin long rod

Anytime you can use a long rod it generally should produce a little bit of gain. Now the question is it worth the extra money that a descision you have to make. You asked about dyno results mwsc should be able to give you an answer. I'm in the process of building a cv730 vtwin and I put the long rods in they cost the same. The pistons are what puts you to sleep je is proud of there stuff but that's racing.

Driveline / Re: Chain size #35 or #40
« on: November 19, 2013, 09:01:47 am »
I have been using 520 for years might be overkill but I never had any problems. I now have a grasscar mini late using #40 and I will be changing over to 520 next season. Motor to angle box I run 420 much better chain than 40 all you need to do is cut the width down on the gears so it fits. You can also use #41 gear on clutch that fits 420 perfectly. We also have one person runnin 35 on his mini and has not had any problems but he has a very high quality chain I think its rlv extreme. You can buy 520 split gears for microsprints that what I use. #40 chain is not a high speed chain and they get kinky!  420 is a high speed chain.

If your replacing guides I would use bronze and I don't think you can get them from kohler. You can get 6mm or 7mm from those suppliers and like George said maybe ec has them as well. If you put bronze in you will need a reamer as well.

If i,m not mistaken I think kohler guides are the same dia. You can get them from Lakota racing or Midwest upper cub.  I make my own!
