Has anyone running a 400 ever had a problem with the snap ring holding the gear to the top of the input shaft break off causing the input shaft to drop down. I had this happen at the start of the season. My answer to it was to weld the gear to the input shaft so it wouldn't happen again. Guess what, after about 8 races, it broke just under the weld causing the shaft to drop down again. I noticed after tearing it apart, the gear had some wear to it. I replaced it with a newer gear and shaft out of a peerless 600 that looks almost new. Now this gear is held on by a snap ring again, but seems to be less sloppy. I guess I am going to put it together and try it. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Maybe it just had too much back lash. I run the tranny in 2nd gear 1:1 behind a built 30 cube vanny v-twin. The tranny is totaly rebuilt with all new seals and bearings as well, at the beginning of the season. My pulleys are both 5" cast iron. Thanks for any input.
