Briggs Flathead / Intake questions
« on: December 22, 2007, 10:01:47 pm »
Hey guys, quick questions and some ideas
are the sizes for exhaust flanges the same as intake flanges
my quad doesnt run a metal intake, rather its a rubber hose with clamps on each end
i was wondering if i could run a dirtbike carberutor on my briggs, using the same rubber hose but with a custom intake mount using an exhaust flange and piping.
thanks for any responses

Briggs Flathead / Pull start kill?
« on: June 28, 2007, 12:29:14 am »
hey guys, i have a stock pull start 12HP, that i will be building for a friend of mine
once we find a chasis  :noplease:
but i have a question, Our rules require a pull off kill switch (your dumb if your rules dont)
and i have one, but i dont know what to wire to wear? It would seem that a pull start doesnt have a wire for ground to kill, becuase theres no battery for a ground? So how do i kill the mowtor? <<serious responds for this one  :)

and another question about carbs. How do they suck in gas? I dont know if this is right, but someone told me there are holes in the bolt that holds in the bowl?

Hey everyone
i have a question about my peerless 700
i want it to last longer, so i was thinking about underdriving the pullies with a 6in-to-5in
and overdrivingg my sprockets with a 16t-13t
has anyone ever done this, and had posotive results?
or will this not work off the bat

Chassis / Add help!

http://albany.craigslist.org/grd/356409537.html
i was checking out this add, and i think i could get it for less
now the problem as you can see, it DOESNT have footboards!
the rule books state about replacing with mother parts, but would this fall under the classification?
and do you think this would make a nice mower?

Driveline /
« on: June 03, 2007, 03:59:56 pm »
I was taking apart my 700, and I'm trying to understand how these shift. My understanding is when you twist the shifter to the right, the "clips" under the big triangle, pushes this bushing toward the gear, inserting the "shift key" into the gear. But I'm lost after this. How does the key engage the gear?

Driveline / Long input shaft?
« on: June 01, 2007, 09:40:57 pm »
i have a peerless mod. 700-016A, that came from a snowblower, and it came with this really long input shaft. My question is, is this okay for racing, or should i change over to the short one.
Also, after reading Georges race prep, he says that he puts a washer under the pinion gear to remove play, is this a necessity?

Briggs Flathead / boring help?
« on: May 27, 2007, 03:13:23 pm »
hey there
right now I'm building a "supersport" 8hp engine for my brother for him to compete in our LC
the class allows all modifications, so i decided to try something i haven't before
i wanna take the piston out of a 11 flatty and put it in the 8
Ive traced the piston and it will fit, but how do i make the hole? can i use a milling machine with a large drill bit? And should i make it a tad bit larger to compensate for the rings?
Another question, will a shorter rod with a longer piston; will that give me more capabilities of higher RPMS if the "stoke" is short? Sorry for the questions, but another one. If i advance the timing after TDC, will that improve flow. This is my theory why. For example, a person throws a ball to you, you slam it back (this represents timing when spark is at TDC), but now they throw the ball, and you cushion it, then throw it back(timing a bit after TDC)
sorry for these questions, i tried searching.
any help appreciated

Briggs Flathead / breather tube?
« on: May 02, 2007, 08:47:46 am »
on my stock carburetor, which i recently took off to clean, it has a breather tube connected to it. Now do i have to connect it back, or should i create a drip can for it. its at stock RPM so nothing unusual is poring out from it.

Chassis / Bearings
« on: April 21, 2007, 09:33:52 pm »
Soon i will be starting my "No Weld" build, to help out all the newbies that don't have access to a welder. That being i will need to go to a shop to get my front axle welded. But before i start, i need to know, does anyone know where i can get 4bolt pattern flange bearings for cheap? i checked mcmaster-carr, and boy are they expensive.

Briggs Flathead / Cleaning
« on: April 16, 2007, 04:45:01 pm »
I recently took the cover off my Briggs, and boy :woo: there was this weird sludge, and it was all grimy and chunky and, man it was gross. Now my question is, can i just hose down the inside and set it next to a carpet dryer, or do i have to use some special solution.
