Coffee Shop / briggs / tecumseh
« on: March 14, 2015, 05:26:15 pm »
This might be in the wrong spot, if it is I am sorry.

I am building a BP for someone that will be running a Tecumseh v twin however.

I don't have his engine and it will be a couple weeks before I can get one to use for moch.
I was hoping to get the clutch and belt routing done this week end and was wondering if a briggs single cyl has the same foot print and crank location as the indian twin?

Anybody know for sure???

Thanks in advance for the help.

Coffee Shop / Need some FXS advice
« on: November 15, 2013, 05:37:24 pm »
Some guys in our local club plan on building a few of these in our off season.
They all are starting with the Murray Wide Body LT frame rails.

The BIG question is how wide are others building the frame rails on the FXS and FXT frames???

Thanks in advance for any input anyone can give.

USLMRA Races / Farmington MN Dakota Co Fair 8/13/11
« on: August 05, 2011, 07:56:56 pm »
The date is 8/13/11 and the place is Farmington MN at the Dakota Co Fair
Grounds.
The break down for the days events are as follows, tech inspection and
registration will both open around 9am, I plan to hold the drivers meeting at
10:30am with practice by class to follow shortly there after. Green Flag racing
will start promptly at 12:00pm (noon).
There will be tow money paid out to each registered racer that turns green flag
laps, the amount of the tow money will depend on how many racers show up but to
give some idea it should be between $25 to $40 per driver. Also we are going to
have a drawing just like the last race, one lucky driver will walk away with an
extra $100.00 at the end of the days events determined by drawing. To qaulify to
win the $100.00 you must be a registered driver with a mowchine that passed
safety tech and must have turned green flag laps on the day of the event, the
only catch is you must stick around until the very end as you MUST be present to
win!

I will be traveling south tomorrow to meet with the Dakota Co Fair to go through
all the final details for next week end, they are very excited to have us so
lets show them what we got!!!

If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me directly.

Thanks,

USLMRA Races / MNLMRA Garden City MN 7/29/11
« on: July 26, 2011, 10:41:39 am »
Hello fellow sod stompers, I hope you have your sod slingers ready because July
29th is right around the corner for some great racing action at the Blue Earth
County Fair race in Garden City Minnesota.

With that said I would like to share a couple exciting facts about this race.

Fact #1- I have just been advised that Minnesota Bound will be there to
exclusivly film our races and do some interviews. We will have show dates ect at
a later date.

Fact #2- There will be tow money available paid out to each registered driver
for this race however the amount of tow money will depend on how many drivers
show up.

Now for the added bonus!!! For this race the MNLMRA is going to hold a drawing
for $100.00 paid out to one of the drivers at the end of the night, each driver
that registers, passes tech inspection and turns green flag laps that night will
have his/her name put in a box and a name will be picked at the end of the
night; whoever the lucky person is will get an added $100.00 to help offset
travel expenses!!!

Wel thats it for now, hope to see you all at the races!

USLMRA Races / R&T Racing at Fifield WI 7/5/08
« on: July 06, 2008, 10:44:09 am »
R&T Racing attended the second Fifield WI race July 5th 2008 which was a double feature, double points race; and we could not have asked for a better day as the temp was around 80f and the sky was partly cloudy. The order of event are as follows, one 10 lap heat with a lemans start, one 20 lap A-feature with a lemans start and one 20 lap Main feature with a rolling start.
For this race R&T had Tim running his SP and Robert Running his BP.

SP Heat
Tim was 4th on the grid and when the green flag dropped he ran to his mower and had a great start and was 3rd into corner one, for this race they had the track coned off so there was only one lane to race in however that didn't stop Tim from trying to run two wide at times to try and advance his position. Despite his efforts Tim finished the heat in a respectable 3rd place.

BP Heat
Robert was lucky enough to be placed 1st on the start grid however when the green flag dropped and Robert ran to his mower there were problems with his start putting him out on the track in last place about 1/4 lap down from the rest of the field, still with a single lane to race in Robert was able to finish the heat in 4th place.

SP A-Feature
Tim started 3rd in line and when the green flag dropped and he ran to his mower, had a great lemans start and was out on the track in 3rd. It took Tim 3 laps to secure 2nd place and by the end of lap 4 had moved to 1st and immediately started to give himself a comfortable lead running out in front the rest of the race to a first place finish.

BP A-Feature
Robert started 4th in line and when the green flag dropped he too had a great lemans start and went into corner one passing on the outside on two wheels to move himself into 3rd right away, by the end of the first lap he had moved to 2nd and by the end of the fourth lap he had moved to 1st and proceeded to give himself a comfortable lead to finish the race in 1st place.

OK, now it's time for the Main Feature (rolling start) however there was a twist to this... The officials had decided to flip a coin to decide if they should invert the starting order from the finish of the A-Feature, when the coin flip was over it was declared that the starting line up for the Main would be inverted meaning whoever finished in 1st place for the A-Feature would now start in last place for the rolling start of the Main!

SP Main
With the inverted start Tim was starting in last place on the outside and when the green flag dropped he was hard on the gas and moving himself where he needed to be, sometimes passing on the outside and by the end of lap five he had moved into 1st place where he again managed to put a healthy lead on the rest of the field for a 1st place finish.

BP Main
Because of the inverted start Robert also started in last and when the green dropped he too was hard on the gas and was able to move ahead one spot before the first corner and started to move his way through the pack, by the end of lap 10 he had move into 1st place where he put some space between himself and the rest of the field for a 1st place finish.

Over all Tim finished the day with a big 1st place trophy as did Robert for their classes. None of this came easy as there were some very good drivers with serious horse power under their hoods, my hat is off to all of you for a good day of racing with some very good driving and most importantly everybody having a good time and nobody got hurt!

Now it's time to say thank you.

First and foremost, THANK YOU to all the men and women who serve this great nation past and present for with out them we would not have these freedoms we have that allow us to race lawn mowers.

Of coarse R&T racing thanks the Lord God above for keeping us safe in our travels as well as on the track, we are truly blessed in many ways and for his love and grace we are most thankful!

To the Fifield Fire Dept for hosting the event for the WILMRA and putting together a great track for us to run on, also to the Fifield EMT's for being there in the case we would have needed the.

To the WILMRA, Randy Stys, Shannon Kayhart, the girls in registration, the tech guys Todd and Tim Klimpke and all the other track workers for providing us with one great day of racing!

To our sponsors R&T Racing and G-Team Racing. R&T Racing would not be as successful as we are if it wasn't for the R&T Race Chassis built by R&T Racing using all G-Team Parts and powered by only G-Team Racing motors using G-Team race prepped transmissions to put the power to the ground. Please check us and G-Team out on the web > randtracing.webs.com and G-Team.us

Last but certainly not least R&T Racing would like to say thank you to our families, with out their love and support both at home and at the track we would be nothing!

Well that's it for now, we hope to see you all at the track in the near future.

USLMRA Races / R&T Racing post race results
« on: May 26, 2008, 01:50:12 pm »
Well hello friends and family,

Yesterday was the WILMAR Spring Opener in Fifield WI and R&T Racing was there!
This particular race was a double points double feature which means they ran one 10 lap heat (lemans start) followed by one 20 lap A Main feature (lemans start) and then one 20 lap B Main feature (rolling start) in every class. Lots to report on so grab some coffee.
The forecast was for a rainy day however when R&T arrived at the track  the sky was blue and sun shinning, it appeared as though the bad weather would miss us. Boy were we wrong!  As the day progressed the clouds rolled in and we could hear some thunder in the distance, by the time the IMOWs were hitting the track the rain had started falling.
A few more classes and now it's time for Tim to hit the track on his new R&T Racing SP with G-Team power, the rain was still falling and the track conditions were less than favorable to say the least! I think it was about the half way point in the race and the officials red flagged for a rain delay, all the SP racers rolled their machines out to the road for the Fifield Fire Dept mower wash!
We rolled Tims SP into our pit and started to take things apart and found that the carb had taken in not only water but mud as well; right through the pre filter and everything! We pulled the spark plug and found mud packed in there too. The rain was letting up and they announced the track crew was going to scrape the track and get it ready for more races. We were working hard however wouldn't have time to get Tims Sp out for the rest of the heat so we continued to clean and repair Tims Sp so he could get back out there for the feature races.
Now the heat races had resumed and now it was time for Robert to hit the track on his BP. The green flag drop and we run across the track and Robert is first off the start however the tether popped of and killed the motor, Robert gets the BP fired and back on the track to end up finishing 3rd in the heat.

Tims SP A-Main he had to start last on the grid because he did not go out and finish the heat however quickly started working his way through the pack for a 2nd place finish.

Roberts BP A-Main he had a better start than the heat and was out in second place and soon found himself running the outside groove for 5 laps right next to Chris Hilgart side by side action fighting for 1st place, at the appropriate time he was able to make his move to 1st and that is where he finished the A main.

Tims SP B-Main he immediately got out in front and proceeded to put some space between him and the rest of the pack and soon there after found himself lapping the field for a 1st place finish in the B-Main.

Roberts BP B-Main he got the jump on the green to secure his line and ended up finishing his final race of the day in 1st place.

The final result for R&T were Tim A-Main 2nd and B-Main 1st  and Robert with a A-Main 1st and B-Main 1st

Despite a little wet weather to start the races it was a great day of racing for R&T at Fifield Wisconsin.

R&T Racing would like to thank the following people.

Randy Stys, Shannon Kayhart and Chris Hilgart of the WILMRA for putting this event together.
All the track workers, tech guys, registration and the guys doing the announcing.
The Fifield Fire Dept for hosting the event.
Don Gienger and G-Team racing for the power and parts behind R&T.
Lee Vine for lending a hand at the R&T race shop.
The USLMRA for the obvious.
All the men and women who have and who continue to serve our great nation so we may have these freedoms! God bless you all!
And last but defiantly not least we would like to thank our families for with out their support and understanding of the sport of lawn mower racing R&T Racing would not be where we are today!

In closing I would like to remind all the racers when you are at an event be sure and personally thank as many track workers, volunteers ect. as for with out them our sport would not be what it is today and they can never hear enough thanks!

Take care until next time,

Driveline / Time and Money saving clutch!!!
« on: May 09, 2008, 10:38:56 am »
So here I have a clutch that is made of nothing more that the deck lowering arm found on many MTD style mowers. The arm is 1/4" thick and has the correct angle needed to get full clutch action, all you need to do is drill a hole where you want it to pivot, use one factory drilled hole for your clutch linkage to attach and the other for your idler and your all set! This style clutch I have been using for three years with no fail, I have also built mowers for other with the same style cluch and it has worked good for them as well.
Here are a couple pics with out a belt on it, if needed I can post more.

Kohler Engines / need kohler cam info please
« on: October 03, 2007, 05:20:26 pm »
Ok, this may seem like a stupid question but here it goes...

I have a vertical shaft kohler 18hp magnum oppossed motor #MV20 that is need of a cam.
I know where I can get a cam for a kohler horizontal 18hp #M18S.

The question is are the cams the same for these motors?

Thanks in advance for the advice/info.

Post your Pics! / Some of you have ask for them so here they are
« on: July 18, 2007, 10:47:01 am »
Well I have had many asking for some shots of the reinforced frames on my two FX's I built for 2007. Well surprise  :woo: they are not reinforced at all! They are 100% hand made by me and my intern at the R&T Racing garage. Here are a few to start with further along in the builds, I will post more later after I find them in the begining stages.

Briggs Flathead / Connecting your throttle cable
« on: April 21, 2007, 09:28:46 am »
Hi I was wondering if anyone has pics of how they connect their throttle cable to their walbro carbs they wouldn't mind sharing?
I have tried a couple things and am not 100% happy with anything I have tried... They work but I think could be better...

I am a firm believer in hand throttle set up! so I'm not asking opinions on which is better, I am hoping to see some idea's on how to connect to the carb.

Thanks in advance

Post your Pics! / peerless 600 in a 1997 murray
« on: January 07, 2007, 01:12:05 pm »
ok, this is for offroadwhatever8 who asked me to show some pics of my peerless 600 that is in my 1997 Murray which orig came with a hydro transaxle.

I was able to use all the factory mount holes on the Murray as most tractors come with many hole options for the different typ of transaxles they run. The only thing I had to fab was some new L brackets to set my ride height according to the 2006 rules. (this should change for 2007 rules if I have time to lower it!) I also made a heavy duty side bracket out of 1"x1" tube (instead of the stock flat bar) which elliminated the twist from the torque.
Everything else was a pretty straight forward swap. My shift linkage goes out what used to be the deck height adjuster in the Lt side fender.
The clutch I had to make everything for and cut a slot in the Lt running board for the pedal.

I hope the pics show enough for you to get going on your swap out.

Good luck, be safe and have fun!
