Title: Newbie question, Tecumseh engine trouble.
Post by: eodmike on April 29, 2015, 07:42:05 pm
I have a 12.5 Tecumseh formula OHV. I pulled it apart, pulled the govenor off it and put it back together. Since then when I fire it up, it will idle a little rough but if I get on the throttle for more than 5 seconds the throttle will stick wide open and I have to hit the kill switch to shut it down. I can re fire it immediately and it will idle again till I get on the throttle again. Not sure if I have done something wrong or if I just need to rebuild the carb. Looking for any advice I can get. Thanks in advance.

I assume you have some type of throttle linkage hooked to the throttle shaft on the carb?
If not, and it's just flopping in the breeze, it's going to go wide open..

Yep still have throttle linkage all hooked up. If I just Rev the engine then let it go, it's ok. It just does it if I Rev it and hold it for any length of time, then it sticks and runs away.

It sounds like you should reinstall the governor.

You should never hold any motor wide open for 5 seconds!! Going to blow something up . Get yourself hurt when it comes apart .
