Kohler Engines / K-Series valve polishing
« on: October 27, 2006, 10:39:45 pm »
In polishing a Stens replacement valve using the technique as demonstrated in Don's video, a line showed up on the stem.  My guess is it's where the head is attached to the stem.  I had to use the Stens for monetary reasons, but even in my practicing on the old stock Kohler valve, there is a faint line there as well.

I only polished it to the stock diameter, just taking the roughness off.

My question is, has the strength of the valve stem been undermined?  Are these valves different than the Briggs valves shown in Don's video?

I'd sure hate to put this together only to have the head break off and do some serious damage to what will essentially be a brand new engine when I'm done.

Chassis / Deck legalities
« on: March 08, 2006, 06:34:07 pm »
Okay, even though I'm a little higher than the 4" minimum frame to ground clearance, getting a deck in at 2.5" is proving difficult.   I've got half a dozen or more decks out in the bone yard, different manufacturers.   The tallest measure 4" or higher, the shortest 3"

Even at 5" to the frame, a 3" thick deck comes in 2" from the ground.   That ain't legal.

Can I cut some off the bottom of the deck to shorten it's height?  Can I mount the top of the deck above the floorboards?  That would make a nice foothold, but I doubt this would be legal as it's kinda stretching that stock location line.

With all those decks out there it seems silly to have to go BUY another!!!

Driveline / Chain size
« on: December 23, 2005, 09:52:48 pm »
Here is a loaded question, what is the prefered chain size when running a transmission/live rear axle via a chain setup?

I've seen part numbers for sprockets to fit the 700 Peerless such as:
7 tooth sprocket 786077
8 tooth sprocket 786047
10 tooth sprocket 786076
12 tooth sprocket 786095
15 tooth sprocket 786111

What size chain do these take?  I ordered up a new transmission today which has the steel input and bevel gears in it, but need sprocket and chain info.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
