Do NOT buy the emmision carb. A brand new 7 series carb may still be around $130. That is the way to goi.

Bert

I don't follow. I thought the series 7 is an emissions carb? They can be had on eBay brand new for $45. Both the original w/ blue plastic emulsion tube or Oregon replacement with a brass emulsion tube.

One more question
If I want to try the brass tubed version from Oregon, like Mr Herrin suggested, are Oregon replacement carbs of good quality?

OK, I had some time to look it over closely with the parts diagram in front of me.

I tallied up the missing parts at partstree.com
Shipping is another $7

There are 6 items in your cart for a total of $36.01
TEC 632547

   $10.40 / qty 4

TEC 632545
Spring, Main Nozzle Tube
   $1.53 / qty 1

TEC 36918
Spring
   $2.08 / qty 1

TEC 27110A
Bowl Drain Washer
   $2.10 / qty 1

TEC 640041
Bowl Drain Screw
   $2.18 / qty 1

TEC 640039B
Float Bowl Assembly
   $17.72 / qty 1

So, instead of spending $44 to rebuild my old carb, a new emissions carb on ebay is $44 shipped.
I wont be rebuilding.

Should I buy the a new carb exactly like the old one, or is there a fully adjustable carb that is bolt on? Like a pre-emissions version or another brand?

Thanks,
Joshua

I believe you Mr Herrin.
...
Ok. I found the difference.

Here is a "factory" rebuild kit part# 730639 with the blue plastic tube.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TECUMSEH-CARB-BOWL-KIT-PART-730639-/270577534021

This kit is labeled as a "replacement" part 730639 rebuild kit. But this one has a brass tube.

Which one should I get? I bought the brown .040 jet.
My engine is stock w/ open exhaust. No governor.  I plan on putting on a high flow air intake. I won't be going any further than that.

Thanks,
Joshua

Hey Yall,
I have to buy a complete bowl kit. Heres the question.

Mine has a blue plastic emulsion tube.

Some of the kits have the same blue plastic emulsion tube. Others have a brass one.

Which one is better? What should I buy?

Yea, I don't know what I was thinking.
I was searching the part numbers. I copied the weight of it instead of size.

I was thinking about putting a k&n airfilter on it. I could make a tapered air filter adapter instead though.

Is .007 the "brown" one?

Does anyone know if it's possible to mount the carb directly to the block? Do I need an adapter? Who has one?

Lots of questions.
Thanks for the help thusfar.

Except for the exhaust it's bone stock. Do you have a link to the brown one?

Man you all are quick.

I was afraid so. I'm surprised it ran at all.  I didn't have a chance to pull the plug after putting on the straight pipe. I have heard the stock jets on these engines run lean, especially with a straight pipe. Since I have to buy a jet, which one should I buy?

Um, thanks for your help, but the rings are fine. I should have said I  MAKE it smoke intentionally on demand.  I have a windshield wiper pump that injects a baby oil and diesel fuel mix through a copper tube prewarmer that's wrapped around the header, and then into the base of the header. Its a simple smoke setup based off of my rc planes that can have smoke systems for sky writing and aerobatics.

I think I might have found the problem. When the fuel solenoid broke off, I think the main jet may have fell out. Is the jet gone, how is the jet behind the solonoid held in?

My build would fit into the "other builds, interesting projects" category. Here is the before and after pics. It is called Sodzilla. A hood stack means the exhaust exits through the hood, most commonly found on diesels, my favorite engines.

After

It even blows smoke, as every monster should. It can blow enough smoke to cloud up  In this pic the smoke had almost cleared already.

I'll pull the jet and see. I need to do a spark plug test.

There is a blue emulsion tube in it now. How do I get the jet out to see? It looks like it's press fitted into the plastic fuel bowl.

Hello,

I have an OHV17 204606B with a series 7 carb 640072

After pulling my mower out, I noticed my float bowl had a chunk of plastic broke out of it where the fuel solenoid mounts. I took the bowl off and epoxied the chunk back in just to get it started for the year.

It started right up, however, it wouldnt run over 1/3 throttle and was spraying fuel out my hood stack pipe. Upon removing the air filter, there was fuel in the bottom of the air intake. So I figured it was a stuck float. Upon removal, however, the float works good and can shut off flow. I need to see if the float is cracked and is filling up with fuel. Anyway, I want to replace the float bowl assembly 730639.
BUT, Ive found two kinds of replacement kits. One has a brass emulsion tube. Another has the plastic blue emulsion tube. Mine has the blue plastic emulsion tube.

Which one should I use? Blue plastic or brass?
Or should I just forget this carb and replace it with another one that is a bolt on replacement, like an older non emissions carb?

Thanks guys, this forum is so helpful!
