Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: 30 ci Vanguard ( 16 HP )

OK. I understand . But still. Can i run this "black" vanny with this mods. The engine is manufactured 2012 November.
What i read here, on this forum , that is a big difference in quality between the red old vannys and the black new vannys. The black ones are not as god as the red ones... ?
I noticed the difference between the pistons , and the rings , and this matter is just about that.
Mr. George mentions this in another thread I read.
I bought this engine as brand new, and they are extremely expensive in Sweden. The Swedish price in USD will be 2292 $.
And the parts from EC like the rods, flywheel, camshaft, shipment + 25% tax on the total price to the Swedish government on all my orders from the US.
So I hope you guys will understand my concern. :(

1 more question about this engine.
What is the safe and highest  RPM for a standard vanguard 30 CI engine without the governor ?
Its not the "black" vanny. Its a older red vanguard yet still made in Japan.
Is it OK to run the engine at 5000 RPM without any problems, or should I go below 5000 or i´ts OK with 6000 ?
 What is your recommendations ?

One modification to the engine will be made. The flywheel . I will order a ARC flywheel. That´s it. the rest of the engine will be stock

Ok, thanks.
Shouldn't this problem be checked by ARC?
I mean.... they do recommend that your must shave the piston to make it work with the 4.262 rods.

I can't meassure it now because the engine is assambled and tested. For the moment it works fine but I have only run it in my garage. (never on a track or under load)

 Hello guys . Sweden again....

I put my new engine together with the parts from EC.
ARC rods, EC Cam, ARC flywheel.
I shaved the pistons as in the recomendation.
The engine is running great with a lot of power .

But when I spoke to a friend of mine who´s working with racing bikes, he told me that probably I will destroy my pistons very quickly
because it´s to thin at the top of the piston.
He said the top piston ring will not stay in place for to long, though it's only approximately 2.5mm left and that is not enough to keep the top ring in place .

Does anywone use the long rods for this engine and did the same thing ?

Did you have any problems with your engines ?

Please let me know, I don't want to destroy my brand new engine, with all this nice parts in it.

I hope you understand my description . If you take a look at the attached picture, the part is marked with red, that's the part I am worried about. That part is only 0.079"
 Isn't that to thin ?

 OK.

We do not hawe a lot of rules in sweden regarding lawn mower racing.
 We hawe wery simple roules.
Klass 1 : Lawn mower with maximum 13 hp mower engine with free tuning. But no turbo charging or supercharging .
Klass 2 : lawn mower with maximum 23 hp + free tuning. No turbo or boost .
In booth klasses the mower is not alloud to be wider then 1.05 meters and not longer than 2.2 meters.
 Free modifikation to the chassy.
 Stif mounted axels.

We hade a race on asfalt last week. The red camouflage traktor is mine. its a klass 1 race. I have a 13 hp OHV briggs with home grinded cam, ported head, homebalanced crank .

You canb se it on youtube here.
 Video not sutable for Heymow.

 Easy and simple.

In my oppinion big engines do not like high rpm.
Therfor I want to prepare a small vanguard for racing. Like the 30 ci vanguard. I think this engine can stand easier the high RPM-s compare to the 35 or 40 engines.
 Am i right ?

 Hello guys.

I have a vanguard 14 hp engine in my garage.
I want to make a lawn mower racing engine of this.

 My question is :

If I use Vanguard V twin cam from EC 35-3030 with billet flywheel, ARC rods, ported heads, dual valve springs, billet roller rockers, and dual mikuni 26mm carbs .
How much power do I get from this engine ?
And how much can I rew this engine with thees parts .

 Thanks for the help.

You mean the ARC #6280 rod ?
That rod is 5.125 long from center of the crankpi to center of the vrist pin.

My briggs original rod is only 4.75 from center to center.

The piston in the US version is with a dom if you understand what i mean by that.
The piston in my engine is flat. So its alredy machined of from the factory.

To fit my original piston to this rod i have to mashine down the piston to much. There will be no topp left on the piston. Accept a big hole.....  :(

 Hello guys

First af all..... sorry for my bad english. I am fron Sweden.

My question regarding this engine is. What is the highest RPM this engine can take with the original briggs conrod.
ARC has no rods for this engine. Not for the europeean version. (?)

I am not intending to use the guvernor
