Chassis / JD STX38 - Steering question - Light front end
« on: July 23, 2013, 12:16:13 pm »
hoping someone can help me with an issue I am having

I run a JDSTX38 and right now I am having major troubles with cornering.  I have tried different angles, TOE out setups and i push thru the corners.  I have a sharp entering the corner but then once I grab the throttle it pushes out until i hit the rough edges and then grabs strong.

I am going to try some different wheels up front but just feels like I am pushing thru the corners.

Side note i will pull wheelies out of the corners too.

Can I add weight up front to help this?

Chassis / Hand Throttle
« on: May 06, 2013, 11:06:50 am »
I used to get my throttles thru Acme Mowersports, but the site is no longer.

Can someone direct me to another place I can order them thru, starting 2 new builds and trying to get all parts ordered?

Thanks!

Driveline / sprocket question
« on: August 14, 2012, 09:38:42 am »
I ran in a race last weekend and i just dont think I have the right setup yet.  I have a JD STX38, 12.5hp, running 6 in on Engine, 4 in on 700, 12 sprocket on trans and 46 on axle, I had pretty good distance speed, but lacking acceleration.  Thinking of jumping to a 14 sprocket on trans?

any help would be appreciated, thx

Chassis / Steering problems
« on: August 06, 2012, 05:08:49 pm »
i followed the acmemotorsports Direct Steering and now having some problems.

for one it is pretty tough steering.  I have a John Deere STX38. I attached pics any help would be appreciated.

Turns really well to the Right, actually over turns, and doesnt want to turn to the left much at all.  Plus it is just tough steering.

Need some help on how others have connected their Hand throttle to their carbs governor linkage on their 12.5 command Kohler engines?

I mounted throttle clamp to my shroud cover and the end of the cable to the old throttle linkage and doesnt want to pull very well.  Squeeze the throttle so hard it almost snaps the hand throttle.

Wanted to hook directly to the carb but the carbs on these, the governor arm pushes the throttle open and closed, not pull like on my Briggs engine carbs that I have on my MTD's.

any ideas or pics would help a lot.  Thanks.

Driveline / keep small sprocket on 700 tranny
« on: June 25, 2012, 12:08:22 pm »
am I missing something, or is there some time of Bolt or retaining clip that is supposed to hold my sprocket onto my 700 tranny?  or just by chain tension?

It doesnt look like it is threaded and there is not a retaining clip grove, so I am at a lose.  any help would help me, haha, thx

Kohler Engines / 12.5 Command - Removing Govenor - Too or Not Too?
« on: June 21, 2012, 10:18:53 am »
Is there any benefit on removing Govenor on my 12.5 or not?  I race at local (non sanctioned racing) events with my JD STX38 mower I built.  Just looking for any more (CHEAP) bumps to help it go faster.

Driveline / Pulley and Sprocket help
« on: June 15, 2012, 04:50:07 pm »
HI guys, new to the forum and to racing mowers.  I have JD STX 38, that I have a 12.5 Kohler Commander engine.  I have a 700 peerless mounted with Live Axle.  want to make sure my pulleys and gearing is close to accurate.

I am going to run 6in on Engine and 4 on tranny, then 12 tooth on tranny and 40 tooth on axle.  I am thinking my sprockets might be off, oh I also weigh 280lbs with all equipment on.

I race locally where we are not yet sanctioned but are looking into getting involved with one.

Any help would be appreciated.
