Briggs Flathead / Re: Balancing 25 cu. in. crankshaft
« on: September 07, 2008, 11:03:14 am »
I think we all kinda gave him information he might have already known, he asked who could balance his crank, and yes Don, from G-team racing is mostlikely your best bet, but also Ryan Ker will be able to balance it www.rykerracing.ca

Agreed with george #1 I run 6 of them on my rear axle, and have never complained and i have yet to have a single thing slide, i just check them after every race and it takes only a few seconds, cheap insurance. Not to mention the two piece aluminium lock collars from BMI karts are only like 1,60$ a piece.

I don't believe that combo will work, ive never hurd of any one building a 31 cube flatty out of a 25 cube motor. I don't believe the parts nor are the concepts available. The crank doesn't have the right stroke etc...Rods are different so many differences between the 25 and the 31ohv, and seeing as how you will be getting all of your parts from the 31 cube, might wanna hunt down a 28.

Use a two piece lock collar when you do it jason, they hold far better then the one piece, not to mention you don`t need to slide them on and off. Oh and putting two lock collars on all your hubs and all your wheels is gonna add rotating mass ;) I don`t see why i few preventative measures can`t be made to make sure they don`t go any where, make sure every thing is tight before you race and after each race, only takes maybe 30 seconds with your allen key.

The high speed ajustable needle is a tecumseh part number, and nut on the other hand is come thing you need to make. Or for 10$ you can get the needle and the nut from EC carburetors.

Briggs Flathead / Re: puke tank ?
« on: August 29, 2008, 02:23:05 pm »
To answer the original question instaling a puke tank will give you more power, now this isn't seat of your pants power but none the less still power, little things add up. The reason for this is because crank case preasure is fiting the piston more preasure there is the harder the piston needs to work to come back down stealing power. So getting rid of the stock valve cover and instaling a flatt plate with brass fiting will help with performance. But this is like the most contrevertial thing ever. Some say it won't work some say it will puke oil etc. I have two brass fitings one in the block and one in the valve area. Both run into the same catch can and then vent. I'm through just about half a season on a brand new (almost) 28 flatty and it barely pukes any oil. And i mounted my catch can above the motor so the oil gets drained back into the block at the end of the race. Just my 0.02, like i said some seem to think other wise and have great luck with stock. But i have don G. motor 101 movie and thats what he said to do and ive been having great luck.

Rule of thumb i like to use for exhaust tubing size...I.D= diameter of your exhaust valve. As for the porting not really to sure, but i'm sure some one will jump it to give you a hand.

Yes but we use a wide range or rpm, not wide open all the time. I'm just stating what ive learned and from what ive been told running lean isn't the answer. I just my motor a little fater then i used to and it does help to an extent.

Thats what i thought to but after having a convorsation with george H when he came down he explainned that running these motors lean will no help you all that much mostly because we are all over the rpm spectrum. And its imposible to keep a motor lean every where so the only place running lean would help was in your top end higher rpm. So george actualy runs his motors rather fat. Not only does it help as far as power goes but it also runs the motor a bit cooler as well. Running lean might help when it comes to some think like drag racing but we aren't going wide open for 10 seconds.

After reading on a little bit i don't think your motor not running has any thing to do with your carb this all sounds like a fly wheel key beeing sheared. Pull your fly wheel off i'm almost willing to bet its messed up. Because you said it was back firing out of carb, and that some times it would run for a few seconds, sounds like the flywheel is slipping into and out of proper timming.

Hmm...I dont' think having his motor backwards is going to hurt any thing many people do it including me and i have not had a problem. I run factory plug in my 12 flatty. Also you want to run that motor as fat as possible fuel=power. That will also let it run a fair bit cooler. And i would run synthetic, just a cheap brand nothing special mostly because it not only helps with power but a synthetic oil with always lubricate better then a standard oil. I like amsoil 4stroke small engine fomula.

It is most likely a flowboal vent and or an external vent from inside the carb. All carbs should have them weather they shoot gas out of them not really to sure, i try not to look to close when their back firing :P
