Title: Dave Hertel Memorial/Carquest Race Sept 05
Post by: Squidd on October 30, 2005, 09:51:10 am
Just thought that while we're waiting for the New Board to become active...

You might enjoy some Pics from the Dave Hertel Memorial/Carquest Championship Race we had in Prentice Wi. last Sept.

You might recognize some of the Racers/Machines/Numbers

I think the "Bumper" gives it away on this one...

Yeah, I introduced myself on the picnic table while we were waiting for the post race presentation to start...

If you remember, it was right after I posted that "confusing" question on Gearing Scenerios and their Effect on Torque...

All in good fun on the bumper George, all in good fun...It's a nice bumper...a big solid, heavy duty, protect your mowchine when you cartwheel bumper...

Actually, if you look at my JD in IMOW..."I" could use a bumper...

Actually, what I need is a "Wheel Stop" on the front of my trailer...Did that the first time I drove it up to load it...

Glad you could make the trip up this fall...

I know its all in good fun, gotta rib back too ya know, But as strong as it looked it wasn't strong enough at Nationals when I flipped it. It did its job but wasn't slavageable. Oh well. I remeber you now.

I moved this into the "Post Your Pic" forum, cause it kind of gives a feel for the type of posting we can do here...

Show us you Mowers, Trophys, (Trophy girls  ) Trailers, or even your Ugly Mug shots...

Just a cool place to put up some memories or show off your photography skills... 8)

I was wondering if anybody knows how the guy in the picture of the sp tractor race(the guy in front) did in that race. I am asking because he lives close to me here in Canada and we race against him sometimes. He tells us what a good time he is having down there racing with you and I wish I could afford to go with him.

I don't remember where he finished but he drove a heck of a race and was running with the best of them. He represented Canada well.

The Guy from Canada is Pat Beauchemin 139 and he finished 10th out of 18 racers. Heck of a nice guy. Hope he can make it back this year.

The pic of the "AP Guy" is funny. I've got a spare helmet kicking around that's no longer allowed at the drag strip, so maybe I'll turn it into my "mower helmet of fury"

I could but then you wouldn't notice. When one answers as many emails/forums as I do with two fingers things sometimes comes out jumbled. Without spell check its the best i can do.

Well dang George why didn't you tell me you needed spell check! That's easy enough to do!

http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/ieSpell/iespell.html

Nice sweet little download, it's from a very reliable and trusted source. I've been running that program for about, 3 years now, doesn't affect anything, but misspelled words in your posts! When you get done downloading it and go to use it, just right click in the form box you have filled out, and select check spelling. It'll run through everything you've filled in on the form, and no this is not just limited to forum posts, any form filled out in your web browser can be checked. In my personal opinion this one works better than the spell checker in MS Word too. Very Sweet program!!

Actually it's a relatively small program George, just a little shy of 2 megabytes. Dependent upon your connection speed, I'd say somewhere between 10 minutes and a half hour. Worst case scenarion on dial maybe an hour... That of course depends on your computer to a certain extent too. DSL about 3 seconds maybe!

Well worth it though, it's a sweet little program!

Its old 550  pentium processer 20 gig hard drive 256 meg of ram and connect at 18000 bps. Won't never get dsl this far out.

Yeah it's entirely too sweet to pass up for anyone that's posting on the web a great deal. Don't know why I didn't think to recommend it before. It doesn't check grammar like spellcheck in MS Office, but as far as the actual spelling itself, it does have Office beat. You'll find if you forget to space and run two words together that IE Spell will sort it out and recommend the two words be spaced. Office loses it in that respect and doesn't offer a recommendation.

As for the program itself, as stated I've been running it nearly three years and it's never so much as hiccuped once, it runs flawlessly. I've never encountered a single problem with it in any respect. The only flaw I've found, is it doesn't yell that you forgot to spellcheck before you click the post button!

It does often start outside the box on these forums George, and will spellcheck the topic occasionally, user name, and a bit of the code above the box. But otherwise it just works really sweet.

Yes sir... you're certainly welcome!

Anything else you might be looking for just shout, I might know where to find it, or at least something like it for free. Snapfiles' Freeware  (http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/)section is just absolutely full of little programs of all sorts, all are rated both by the staff and user input so you get a good idea of what works and what doesn't before you waste the time to download it.

If you have Broadband at work, or have a buddy that has it at home, you might want to pick up one of those little USB memory sticks, (a.k.a. Thumb Drives, Flash Drives, etc. etc.), you can find them at most office supply stores starting at around $25. If you have a USB Port on your computer that is, (it's probably located in the back right hand side [looking at it from the front] on a machine of that vintage, it's just a little rectangular slot 1/2"wide x 1/4" high, it'll likely be turned vertical if it's in the back too),

You can then download the program and save it to a folder on your office computer, simply by electing "Save" rather than "Run" or "Open" and then copy it to the thumb drive. Or... you can download and save directly to the thumb drive as well. Take it home click on the file and it should open right up. That saves a lot of time downloading goodies on dial-up! I clean  a lot of computers up for the locals, and any time I go to work on a dial-up connection, I download all the latest versions of the tools I need before I leave the house! As suggested above that program that took you 28 minutes to download, would have downloaded on my connection in well under 10 seconds.

If you need to download something for Microsoft itself, and it doesn't offer a Save option, but attempts to simply install, download a different web browser... Netscape, Firefox, Opera... they aren't tied into the operating system like Internet Explorer and those programs will give you a save option for MS files.

As for how much the memory sticks hold, I think the smallest you can buy now is about a 520mb. Mine's a 256mb and I've had entire folders full of saved programs on it, along with copy of several websites, and assorted other files all at once. One of the sites there is a 300+ page e-commerce site, loaded with pictures, so it's quite large, and there was still room to spare. They'll hold waaaaay more than what you think they will!

Sounds good and thanks again. And yes I have USB ports two but have added splitters so I have several more. Anyways off to Texas. See all when I return.

Another great little spell checker is the Firefox browser. The newer version comes with spell and grammar check built-in. It will underline words and phrases as you type. If you make a mistake, all you do is right click and it shows the correct word. I personally haven't used IE explorer in years because Firefox has a bazillion little free downloads like weather, stocks, and other stuff.
