Kohler Engines / Re: horse power identification?
« on: January 14, 2013, 06:46:44 pm »
I was meaning the engine alone. by the time you get the flywheel, heads done, rods, pistons, etc. I could probably build a prepared class engine and chassis.

so it would definately be silly to try to put a stock kohler in that class. so I do believe that is out of the question........lol too costly to build into a racer.

You might be able to narrow it down by the carburetor.
-If it has a throttle stop on the carb its an 18hp
-if it doesn't have a throttle stop it could be a 20-23hp
-if it has an accelerator pump on the carb it will be a 25-27hp
-if it is a 2bbl it will be a 30hp
usually the larger engines 23hp and up had the SAM ignition system because they were pretty common on commercial mowers, the little black box bolted to the blower housing.
Hope that helps out without tearing it apart.

it does have the throttle stop. so does that make it for sure a 18 or could it be smaller? and I didnt want to take the engine apart to do the bore x stroke but ya no numbers on the plastic cover/shroud, no numbers on the valve cover or anything. Also no black box, accelerator pump, so I am at a 18 hp. thanks.

Kohler Engines / horse power identification?

I have a v twin horizontal shaft. No stickers on the engine to tell what size engine it is. Is there any other identifying marks or numbers to tell what size it is?

Used a trans axle - axle cut down joined at gear box using a wheel hub we cut out of a wheel.

I understand how you did that and I was going to ask the same thing if you used the incert of a wheel. but did you weld one end of the insert to the 3/4 or what cause I cant see what keeps the shaft from comming off the RAGB. I know the insert is keyed on to the axle and the RAGB, also that the insert is bigger than the bearing on the support end, but other than just the keyway, what keeps the axle from sliding outward? I was just trying to make my self clearer but may have made it more confusing.........sorry

I think most are alumn body. with that said I dont know about the 2:1 ratio, but with the expence of the regular 1:1 ratio boxes, I think you could figure out your pully sizes and make it work. Post up a pic of it.

Chassis / Re: Super bronco VS murry
« on: December 16, 2012, 03:04:33 pm »
if you get one of the wide body murrys, it has just side rails. the engine plate and such isnt made to it like most of the murrys. look at some of the builds in the build sections. you will learn a lot. especialy flipping the tansaxle.

once you get the brazing rods, you will need to use a torch with it. I have tried using a propane torch the little blue bottles, and they dont heat up enough. not in my case anyway.

ok I have a question about the placement of the engine. Is that legal for say like IMOW or jp/sp or bp or is that just a modified class cause of the way the hood is cut out??
