Title: Vanguard 23 build question
Post by: Mudbuddy23 on January 16, 2020, 06:46:13 pm
I hate to start another thread for this but I just can’t find the right answers. Here’s my build plan. I have a Mud Buddy 23 mud motor that I’m wanting to get the most power possible out of. I plan to port/polish the heads myself, bigger valves, stiffer springs and also mill them for compression. I want to run 93 octane pump gas, and need to know how much I can deck the heads and still be able to run pump gas? I also planned on boring it out for the 40ci intek pistons, and ARC billet stock length rod. Of course the billet flywheel, and custom 1 1/4” stainless exhaust. I’m not sure what cam yet, probably call Precision Cams and run whatever he recommends for my application. And I’m also not 100% sure on a carb yet either, but there are several options. I’m sure I left something out, but I’m looking for any advice I can get! And what kind of power level can I achieve with this setup?

I’ve never built a vanguard but it sounds like you are on the right path.

Ditch the stock style carb and run dual mikuni’s.

Is dual 34mm Mikunis going to be too much or not enough? I’m new to this so take it easy on me! Lol

That is what was on my 42 cube kohler.
