Chassis / Chassis horzontial centerline angle?
« on: January 26, 2014, 08:53:59 pm »
Ok I am from a full sized car background and may not be using the same terms that you guys are used to but here it the question.
When setting up the initial chassis is it set up nose down when looking at the horizontal centerline of the chassis? On Dirt late models and modifieds we typically built a set amount of nose down angle into the chassis.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Re: Fuel solenoid removal question.
« on: December 29, 2013, 10:52:20 pm »
Thanks guys! I found one that was a about 2 inches long and put a nut on it to lock it in shorter. Put fuel to the carb and it turned about 5 times, fired up and ran. No smoke just a little oil leak from the valve cover and the bottom 2 bolts were about 1 1/2 turns loose. Looks like it will be the candidate for some work. Now I need a bowl gasket and decide the class that this one will be for.

The engine I have has the solenoid is broken off, so when you put fuel in it just runs out where the shaft used to be. It was supposedly running when he drove the mower into the bushes and a branch broke it off. I was going to plug it and see how it runs before spending money on parts. I have read where people just put a bolt in to replace it but I can not find a bolt to fit it to try the engine out.

Looking for the part number or size for the bolt to replace the fuel shut off solenoid on the fuel bowl. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about chain on a vertical shaft motor? Chain is made and designed to run with the sprockets vertical, if you run them horizontal the chain will be hanging on the sprockets and will wear the chin and sprockets out very quickly.

What are you looking at to build.
It may sound odd but that is be big question. I am looking to see what would be the best classes to get going in for a beginner at mowers. First question, Do the classes stick to the rules in the book or are some classes a little more lenient than others? Second is what classes cross over from one series to the other (s)? Trying to learn the classes and what classes will cross over if any to decide what I am going to build. It seems some places call the same classes different things and looking to be able to do the most if I build something. I may even build a couple different mowers to fit if needed. I was looking at CP but the engine costs and areas to race around me are few, I am just east of Bowling Green Ky. I am open for suggestions from you guys to help with the final decision.

Thank you, let me start with this; I have been in racing for 30 + years, motorcycles and cars, even when running in the yard will be in full safety equipment (Full face snell rated helmets without damage, chest protectors, riding suits, gloves, neck collars, and my wife present, She is an Nurse practitioner with trauma and ER experience when an RN.). I was looking over the rules packages and have been debating them. In car racing the only tru way to understand the class is to go and see what is and is not allowed. I am not familiar enough with the mower racing classes to know what is and is not allowed within the rules. Not to mention where I live in Kentucky there are no sanctioned races within a distance to be able to race at any frequency without a weekend trip involved and that is cost prohibitive at this time.
What would be the best class to look at using what I have. The mowers right now are in a state that I can go about any way and keep them within the rules on both sanction bodies.

I have 4 engines right now and am looking at a best bang for the buck engine to get started. (I am building 3 mowers, local racing has very little rules, must be belt drive is the only rule, but going to use them in the yard for fun also as I have enough acreage I can build a 1/2 mile banked track if I wanted). I have a 14hp OHV engine not pressure lubed, A 13.5 OHV pressure lube engine, a 18hp oppy and a 14hp flat head that has in internal noise.
Which would you build first and what mods for power and reliability?
Thanks in advance!

Chassis / Re: 40 wide
« on: December 11, 2013, 08:37:59 am »
13x6.5x6 on 6.5 wide rims.  Turf masters.   Rear were 16x7.5x8 turf savers on 7in wide rims.    Front steering had no ackerman.  Also the front tires were rubbing the front hood.    Will be running 16x7.5x8 turf masters on 8in wide rims for next year.
Thank you! I have someone that gave me a new set of 13x6.5x6 so that is great!
