Coffee Shop / Berlin Ga. racetrack.
« on: June 18, 2014, 02:52:59 pm »
I talked to the Mayor of Berlin today and he is interested in getting the track going again. I know lots of you guys ran here years ago and I'd like to see what kind of interest is out there if he gets it up and going again. He said there was a national event there once so maybe it'll get some of you back in South Georgia. We weren't into racing then so I've never been to the track but probably will go look at it this weekend. Post up if you have raced there or are interested in coming. Thanks.

Kohler Engines / billet flywheel question.
« on: May 06, 2014, 04:22:15 pm »
A friend of mine and fellow racer is running a kohler single. What flywheel are you guys running? He ordered one but it didn't come with cooling fins and had to change over the ring gear and magnet. I think he got it from west coast super cub. That may be wrong. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I run Briggs so I'm not much help to him. Thanks guys.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 31 non AVS timing problem I think
« on: November 01, 2013, 01:43:52 pm »
I decided to check the timing on this engine today. I have an ARC flywheel on it and have been running it advanced 2 marks. When I got my degree wheel and set TDC I put the light on it and couldn't believe how high it was. I reset TDC just to make sure I was right and it came up the same. I set the flywheel all the way negative and it's showing to be at 36 degrees advance. What to do? Move the flywheel seems the only option. Have yall run in to this. Got a race tomorrow so if you guys can shed a little light on this I'd appreciative. I've done the search thing but didn't get a specific answer.    Thanks Guys.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Starter Gear
« on: July 27, 2013, 04:53:43 pm »
I got my engine built and all is good with the exception of shearing the teeth off the plastic gears. The ones I've been using are after market but haven't had a problem with then up until now.  I know I have more compression and I guess my question is, What are ya'll doing about this? I have an ARC flywheel so plastic is the way to go I understand to not mess up the flywheel. Are you guys having better luck with Briggs original gears? I also set the timing back to stock. I need help with this. First race is right around the corner.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 31 ci race engine.
« on: July 24, 2013, 08:16:41 am »
Well, I finished my race engine last night and bolted it to the bench to test run it. It wouldn't crank and acted like the timing was Way high so I checked the keyway in the flywheel twice. All was good. Long story short,After pondering on everything I happened to notice that the exhaust valve wasn't moving. The pushrod had fallen out while I was adjusting the valves. Fixed that and it fired off with one revolution. Lesson here is check the simple things first. Have a Happy Day All.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Piston clearance
« on: July 17, 2013, 04:29:33 pm »
Getting ready to rebuild my OHV with a new 20 over AVS piston. The engine will be mostly stock other than the stuff to make it last. Stock cam so I won't be turning it to hard. My question is, What piston to cylinder clearance are you guys running? This is an older non AVS engine with AVS rod and piston. I plan on having it bored Friday and the guy wants to know what clearance I need so if you all can help me out I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Tires / Tire mounting
« on: July 17, 2013, 12:20:03 pm »
We bought a couple of Chinese tires from Agri supply to mount on rims we got from BMI. The rim size is 6.5 wide x 6. We've used these tires before and they've been fairly good. My problem is I can't get the tire to seat. I normally push the tire down on one side of the rim and we can finally get them to blow out but I can't get the rim to push down on the tire bead. Any suggestions? Maybe I just need a bigger feller to do it for me. Thanks.

Russell broke an Idler so was out of contention. He won the points but usually He and Ryan are neck and neck the whole race.

I need a flat top AVS 31 CI piston .020 over. Where have you guys found the best price? Dang, I could buy a whole set of 350 Chevrolet pistons for what one of these cost. Help, I gotta get this engine built before the season starts in September.
