Coffee Shop / Wall Street Journal

Mower racing made the front page today. I haven't been active with mowers for a few years now but it mentioned a couple names I remember. Overall I thought it was a pretty good and positive article. Mow on.

Briggs Flathead / model 19, good to race?
« on: November 26, 2007, 09:24:26 pm »
Looking into building an 8 horse Briggs for a very light Pro-X build. Want to keep the pullstart.
ARC has the flywheel and rod, the cam and valve train seems pretty straight foreward. We could make an intake to run any carb.
We have 3 koolbore motors. Are there any iron sleeve 19's?
Waste of time, or lightweight hotrod engine?

Post your Pics! / What do you make of this?

A friend of mine just picked this up. This mower looks older than Dale Jr.
I guess maybe it's grandpa Ralph. He ran #12 and #8.

Other Engines / Wisconsin

How do you find the model of an old Wisconsin single if the ID plate is gone?
Not for my race mower, it's for the tractor that works the track.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Intek 17
« on: January 01, 2007, 12:06:08 am »
I just picked up a near new mower today with a 311777-0143. Is this the one without the weird balance deal? Is this a good motor to start with?
It was a Scott mower by JD. I must have the only orange John Deere in my county.

Briggs Flathead / Getting rid of points. Model 17
« on: December 06, 2006, 09:27:27 pm »
We have a super strong 7 horse in our club. Its a horizontal. What do I need to get rid of the points? Do I need to get a new coil? If I need parts, does anyone here sell them?

Tecumseh Engines / Crank gear
« on: November 28, 2006, 10:23:36 pm »
On Tecs with a balance shaft, on the crankshaft:
The cam drive gear is pressed on. The balance shaft drive gear slides on after that.
The balance shaft gear is held in place by a square post. How do you remove this?
I've tried to twist it out and I've tried to pull it out. Wont move.
This particular engine is an OVXL125, but I've found this on other Tecs.
Never tried to get this part out before.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Kohler Engines / Triad

Are these things available? I stumbled across some specs on these engines. Lots of power vs size/weight. Kohlers newest design, yet no longer in production?

Driveline / right angle gear box
« on: September 20, 2006, 12:19:22 am »
I tried to read and search before I asked, but came up empty.
For you guys with a 1:1 right angle box, what are you using, where did you get it?
I've found some real nice ones, but $750 is a little steep.
I can get a very strong unit (hub city), from the fan drive of the tour buses I work on but its over 100 lbs and the 1 3/8" shafts seems excessive.
Thanks.
