Driveline / 700 Gear Options
« on: February 19, 2016, 07:58:55 pm »
At my last race I busted 3rd gear into pieces and knocked some teeth off of second. I was running a pretty high gear (14/42).  Is there optional gears out there that are stronger for the peerless? If so what are there part numbers and how to tell them apart?

Coffee Shop / V-twin Tach Question
« on: September 29, 2015, 08:39:17 pm »
I have been using a TinyTach the last few years on my mower but would like something a little nicer but I don't need or want EGT or cylinder head temp. If I combine this http://www.amazon.com/Baron-Custom-Accessories-Tachometer-BA-7315-50/dp/B001KO17TS tach adapter with this http://www.amazon.com/Longacre-44402-Digital-Tachometer/dp/B005JVEBZU/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_img_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=0H34GEVE4DGK6RKND4KN tach set for a four cylinder engine would it work? I have an Intek V-twin.

Coffee Shop / Hegar Front Brakes which Van-K Rims?
« on: February 18, 2015, 12:01:18 pm »
I got my first set of front brakes now I need to decide on rims. I was planing on running 7.5" wide wheels before I got the brakes but they have a 3" offset from Van-K. From what I have read 2.5" offset will work but possibly more if you have the right rim. So my question is will a Van-K 7.5" rim with 3" offset work with Hegar brakes or will I have to use their 7.25" rims at 2.5" backspace?

I am also wondering where do I find polished 8x8 Van-K rims?  I see them listed on there site but have not been able to find a place to purchase them.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Max Compression Ratio on 93 Octane?
« on: January 09, 2015, 12:11:00 pm »
I am building a 44 Intek with some used Ryker heads with an unknown amount of milling.  The previous owner of the heads ran 108 octane on a 40ci. He claimed it did not run right on premium gas. There was no mention of knocking or pre detonation but if it did knock it should have snapped his stock 40 rods like a twig.  I would like to run 93 octane because I am cheap and believe when the rules say pump gas they mean everyday regular premium not race gas.  So how much compression can I run on 93 and was the previous owners problems with it just a matter of tuning?

Tires / Tire Grooving?

Who has done any tire grooving or sipping to lawn mower tires.  How well did it work, which tire, and what kind of pattern did you cut?

Coffee Shop / 3/4" internal bearings for front hubs?
« on: May 29, 2014, 04:48:53 pm »
Does anybody know where I might find some quality high speed bearing with a 3/4" inside diameter that will fit  hubs standard front kart hubs? I found some for a hand cart that would fit but I would not trust them to last very long.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Bigger Carb on 40ci Intek
« on: December 12, 2013, 11:36:15 am »
I am considering swapping out the stock carb on my intek to an 1 1/8" bore carburetor. Would this help or hinder performance on an engine with stock heads, cam, ec intake, and aluminum flywheel.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Intek Cutting Out
« on: February 24, 2013, 02:50:43 pm »
I have been having some issues with my 40ci Intek V-twin for the past few week during ice racing.  It will run great for 2 or 3 laps and then start cutting out at the end of the straightaway.  It is almost like the ignition is completely but briefly getting shut off with it getting worse and worse the longer I run it.  At first I thought it was a fueling issues because when I played with the choke it seem to stay running better.  So I drilled out the jet.  It did seem to run a bit better but still not cured.  So I tried replacing the fuel filter because it looked a little dirty.  Still no luck. Next I cleaned the carb and replaced the plugs still not completely fixed.  I also reset the coil air gap to .046 with no change. My engine is stock except for governor removal, ARC flywheel, EC air intake, exhaust header, 49 rods and springs.  I am running out of ideas on what could be wrong without starting the throw parts at it.

Racing Mower Builds / Rear Engine Deere AP
« on: July 04, 2012, 12:21:02 am »
I purchased a 1979 John Deere 65 off of ebay a few years ago with intentions of making a racer out of it and now I am finally getting to it. I got it tore down to a bare frame and started cutting excess brackets and metal off it.

I have a few things that are worrying me about the build at the moment. The engine crank shaft and rear axle are going to be in real close proximity to each other. With some rough measurements the 13X6.50-6 Turf savers I plan on running will put the rear axle right in the middle of the 4" tall frame with the frame 4" off the ground. Because of this I will have to run the engine drive pulley under the rear axle about 3" down the crank shaft from the bottom of the engine. I will also have to lower the trans to line up the belt but that is a good thing because it will give me more room to lower the seat after I give the engine a 90* turn to the left. Do you guys think the pulley sitting that far out on the end of the crank shaft will cause any issues?
