Briggs Flathead / Super-racer air cleaner recommendations
« on: February 12, 2014, 03:36:02 pm »
I've a 42A Oppy Briggs, stock carb, and I'd like to have a whiz-bang, snazzy racer air cleaner for it....velocity stack, or something. Have you any advice on specific items and where to get them? Thanks.

I'll bet you use roadmaps, too. :D

Cheers!

Driveline / Peerless transaxle stupid reassembly tricks
« on: June 16, 2011, 06:44:22 pm »
When you put your 930 series transaxle back together, the cases should drop right together. This happens easily if you remember the little tags on the bearings on the gearshafts. They fit into little machined corners. If you turn the bearings so the little tags fit into those corners, your case goes together very nicely. If not, you wonder why you have 1/16" gaps and try to force it or otherwise struggle.   Put the little tags in the corners, and you have no gaps and need not use lots of force.

If you'd have done that two weeks ago, you'd not be so stressed out about reassembling your transaxle 2 days prior to raceday, like I am...

You may wear them if you wish, some wear chest protectors, nobody wears a neck brace I've seen.

Mower rules at www.bigbackin.com

200 foot drags, stage and first across. Must be lawnmowers with lawnmower stuff, additional safety and brake material encouraged, kill switch, helmet, long pants gloves and good shoes required, nobody under 16, classes by HP.

I'ts a blast.

Briggs Flathead / Re: Opposed Twin Mods.

I bought the video last year. Best money I have spent on my mower. You'll learn 2 things for sure: you can do this stuff, (you don't really need many specialized tools) and wow, these can go fast and safe.

These motors have some kind of torque, mine tops out about 5K RPM right at the finish line (we're drag racin').  I'm consistently runnin' second, and if I could get them ohter guys to carry 100lbs of dog food, I'd beat 'em all.

How about throttle response
Well, we're drag racing. Throttle response is acceptable.

I use a #4 advance, seems to extend the curve a bit over stock, and it starts really good.

I dualed mine through some suzuki megaphones mounted up like side pipes: I think I give up some HP, but it sounds killer.

Non-Affiliated Races / Re: North Idaho Drag Racing schedule
« on: May 06, 2008, 10:26:07 pm »
We measure out 200 feet christmas tree start to finishline, about another 250 runout. Double elimination, usually time for grudge/fun races after the heats, usually a couple of practice runs.  All proceeds from all races go to sponsoring group, be it Lions Club, local booster organization, or others, for civic projects. Some sponsoring groups pay out winning prizes!  It's a great deal of fun, a great bunch of guys (try to break down and not be ready for the next race!) and it's all for good causes.

Briggs Flathead / Intake help
« on: March 13, 2008, 09:40:21 pm »
I'm looking for an upgrade to my intake.  Stock 42 cube opposed, stock carb. I'm looking for parts to make it both good looking and a better breather.  Most folks think the carb flows well enough, so maybe if you've tips on a cool air cleaner, or hood scoop, or 12v blower made from a hair dryer, or exhaust driven blower made outa an old vacuum cleaner and a mower pulley, I'd really appreciate the help and ideas.

Cheers.
