Briggs OHV & Vanguard / O'ring / fire ring grooves
« on: May 16, 2019, 12:08:16 pm »
I had made a post about this before but I have a diffrent question now..

I have a vanny 35ci block bored to 2.9 to fit the 44ci intek flat top pistons with the long ARC rods. Running the 38ci heads with the factory aluminum roller rockers.

I was told that I would need to cut a fire ring in either the head or the block in conjunction with a copper head gasket .
I just got the head gaskets in yesterday,  and they are .045 thick ..

I've had a hard time trying to set up the head on the rotary table... so I thought I'd try to cut the block instead .

I ran across a tool by ISKY cams , it's called ( Is my 200 GRM , Groove oh Matic) now that tool drops in the cylinder and cuts the ring on the outside ... it's to big for a vanguard but has anyone used this tool before ? Or made one close to it ?

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Vanguard head bolts
« on: May 15, 2019, 10:59:01 am »
So I'm looking into either using ARP head bolts or ARP head studs .. but I can't seem to find the head bolt dia and thread pitch .. it's a 35ci block with 38 heads. Just thought I'd ask now so I can order them while I'm at work .

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Vanguard 38ci head O-ring

I'm wondering where and how to position the placement of the groove that needs to be cut into the head.. I've read that it is really tight and there is only one good spot ?? Do I use the steel head gasket as a reference?? Any input , measurements and or pictures would be great

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / Cylinder machining vanguard

So I'm preparing to build a 35ci vanny . Bore it from 2.8 to 2.970 so I can drop in the intek pistons . My issue is finding a shop to do the work !!! No one around here does small engines for some reason . I found a quick key boring bar machine with the table for $300. , would that work ?? Does any one have any other ideas or suggestions on how I could.
 do this at home .

Or should I just get the 38ci block and not worry about it

Coffee Shop / FXT CLASS DIEING OFF????
« on: July 20, 2018, 10:20:37 am »
I was reading the rules for the FXT class to see if I can run dual carbs on my motor,  for a up coming race in Wamic Oregon Sept 1st and 2nd .

And it said that due to lack of competitor's/ interest,  that the class will no longer be raced on a national level anymore.

That surprised me!! I was super excited about racing my FXT that weekend , for what would have been my first national race.

And I know that our group will still run them and that I can still race my BP too ..

Either way , it's nice to be racing again after taking a 5yr break
