Driveline / Re: #35 or #40 chain and sprockets
« on: March 21, 2015, 04:36:24 pm »
It's really not the strength of the chains that you need to woory about. Good 35 chain is just as strong as the 40 chain most of us run. The problem with 35 is the pitch. If you have a short chain run and keep the adjustment perfect you will most likely not have a problem. Longer chain runs have a tendancy to bounce off of the idlers and then they break. That is where the 40 chain with its deeper pitch comes into play. I have ran both sizes and I have never had a chain break from the torque of the engine. I know alot of high HP BP's, FXS's, and FXT's that run 35 with no problem.

Are you sure you have the correct length pushrods? They might be to long.

I ran a combination of a 30 ci block, 35 crank, stock length arc rods and aftermarket flattop gx200 pistons a few years ago. Great little horsepower engine. like Gui said, you have to bore the small end of the rod to fit the new wristpins. Won a indoor race with it after I blew my bigger engine in practice laps. The key is the aftermarket flat top pistons. True honda pistons are dished.

It all depends on the frame rails you start with. Not allowed to change the wheel base of the original rails. Just the width.

Coffee Shop / Re: Spec Class

Spec class? Cheat class. I have a certain set of skills, that when needed, allow me to wreak devastation upon the innocent and unsuspecting. And I would run that spec class. Tear me down? Hah, tear  everyone down. That'll be real popular when it's beer time.

Number one rule in lawnmower racing: There is no one enforcing the rules.

Bert

That may be at some tracks.

I run tech at our track and I do enforce the rules. I know these engines inside and out and can tell you that the people we run with will not try and cheat. If I find one that tries to push the rules I tell them to fix it or they are not racing. I have the time , the beer, and the tools in my trailer if needed. Just ask anyone in our club if I would do it. I know I have DQ'ed almost averyone at one time or another for something in these classes.

My FXT is usually between 7-1 and 8-1 at most big tracks. That is with 15-8-8 Hoosiers and turning rpms around 7500-8500.

A completly sealed billet rack and pinion was never available on a riding lawnmower. Get with Kerry Evans, Rich Webb or Manny Torres for specific questions about upgrades being legal.

I believe it is the same but call ARC to confirm. Very nice people to deal with.

Yes, the Craftsmans did have a factory rack and pinion. Deeres also had a version of a rack and pinion. Rules state that you can use those stock parts or replace with direct steering. Does not say you can replace with a different version of a rack and pinion

Cheetah cam will go way over 10,000 rpms if you want it to. Stock valves are ok if you start with brand new ones and replace every season or more often. Depends on how many races you run. I have shredded a couple of engines by dropping the heads off of the valves. Stock starter will work for a while, but keep extra starter gears in your pit box. Tends to shred them pretty quickly. Been there, done that. Recommend billet rods if you are going to run it alot. Might live for a few races with stock rods.

I was thinking of using one and called the tech people at USLMRA. The answer is that the rack and pinions are not legal in the USLMRA in any class. It will not pass tech if you have one. Steering quickner/reducers are legal.
