Intek, the intakes are very different between the two motors.

Coffee Shop / Re: BP's

BP's are like a sprint car, you really haven't driven one until you have filled it over!
BP's have already become a lot safer with the new seat rules. On a good track I can drive into the turns pretty good without even going on two wheels. On a rough track or as a bump or hole forms you need to adjust, you have to be smart. Also over the past several years I have raced wheel to wheel with great drivers in BP with no problems.
Also I hate the 6" wheel idea. What makes BP a fan favorite is seeing a lawn mower like they have at home coming off a turn carrying the front wheel and sounding like a Harley!

SoMD you are in a great spot to get started in lawn mower racing. There are several experienced racers in this area. Listen to Flipper and come to a race and talk to some of us. I would suggest talking with some of us and seeing our machines before you start any build. The amount of information you can receive free of charge is worth a lot and will save you time and money!

Chassis / Re: Rear axle Question for Prepared Class (CP)

I love that idea! Always cool to use what you have available. Most quads have 1 piece axles and you can upgrade to a longer axle. Also some places make different hubs to change the width. As far as being legal, I can't answer that, but still I like the thinking!

Coffee Shop / Re: Ap vs sp
« on: March 07, 2014, 02:04:25 pm »
Depends on a lot of stuff. I know one person who used to have an SP that I would take against most machines. AP, CP or even some BP's!  But the fact is it depends on the machine, driver, and track. A top AP will run with a lot of other machines, just like a top SP will. I've seen GP's that can outrun some built mowers. You'll have fun in either class and depending who the two machines are racing each other that race could go either way.

I have Hegar fronts and can stop really easy. I also do not like he big rotor on the back, it causes the rear to lock up which I don't like. I put lots of pressure on my front brakes and they work great.

GP uses a governor and is very fun to race in. It's not slow, and its not follow the leader. It also has some of the best drivers out there in it now. I've run several classes and have to admit this is as much fun, or more then any others I've raced in.

Driveline / Re: belt questions

The red belts on eBay are sold by Grover out of NJ. He is a great guy to deal with and his belts are really good. I like them better then any others I have tried.

If you know who built the engine you can call them and they can help you out.
Also what class is it built for? I'm going to guess its for one of the stock classes but if not that will change everything I say. RPM depends on the cam but 6700 should be safe. The head temp depends also but 420 would be a good temp. If its running cooler put some tape on the shroud cover until you hit the temp you want. That's assuming the carb has been jetted for that engine which most builders would have done.

Google parts unlimited tether kill switch and you'll find several places to buy them. I've gotten them from biker bandit and Dennis Kirk in the past

Zach I have read the rules update. What I question is the "quotes" you talk about.  I read the rules and they seem clear to me. I guess Glenn has read the samething as me, because he agrees!  So I'm done with this topic as much as everyone else seems to be.

Chassis / Re: front brake question????
« on: February 01, 2013, 11:19:30 am »
That is pretty much correct. I agree more with Flipper but yes if you are getting started there is other things to worry about first. Once you run front brakes on a fast mower you won't want to run without them again.
If your spindles have 5/8 axles you'll have several options for front brakes. I run Hegar front brakes and love them. If you want information on those when you decide to get some send me a message!
