Those look like fun! Elaborate a bit on the build? Mainly the front set-up.

Well I made it to the show. Unfortunately, my computer crashed and I couldn't log in to set up a meet with anyone. I did talk to a very tall, informative guy from Pottersville Sodslingers who was kind enough to give me a walk around and show me his set up. Thank you for that,Sir. I watched the Canadian work on his green mower for a bit and talked to him. I was the bald guy walking around w my "santa-looking" father-in-law. I had a pretty good time and plan on attending a few more events.

Sunday we went to Jackson to pick up a '68 Cub 124 for $50. On the way we stopped and checked out the Sodslinger's track. Not alot of bank on that track. How many wipe-outs happen there? Looks fun though. I have questions on my build that I'll start a thread for. Looking forward to everyones input. Thanks

Jerry

Are there any of you racers that I could meet up with and get a close look at your tractors? I need to see how they are built so I can get started on one to hopefully take your trophies next year. Lol

I was able to still jump the starter(no ignition switch) by running another smaller jump wire off the jumper cables to the backfire solenoid. Worked like a charm and runs awesome! Thanks again

Ok. I will try that and report back....

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / '94 15hp Briggs Vanguard won't stay running
« on: July 24, 2013, 06:57:46 pm »
These engines are new to me. It's my first Vanguard. I picked it up last night in a 42" cut Ranch King for $50. Was told ignotion switch was bad along w a couple minor issues. I jumped the started but it wouldn't start even at full choke. A squirt of starting fluid gets it to start but it dies immediately. Steady fuel flowfrom the tank to the carb. Gravity fed so no fuel pump. No plugged filter. Choke and throttle move freely. It has a wire to the bottom of the carb which I'm guessing is an anti-backfire safety feature. Could that have something to do with the problem? Is this wire a necessity or can I unplug it and forget about it? If I take the needle(?) from the bottom of the bowl to clean it,what is the process for setting it properly when reinstalled?

I'm either going to do a utility/mud mower build with this mower or pull the engine for a mow-cart build. It seems to run decent,it just won't stay running. Thanks for the help. Am I on the right track,at least?

Thanks for the invite. I've got family plans this weekend. I did see that on a schedule somewhere. I'm hoping to make it to the V-twin shootout in Vestaburg, though.

Newcomers / New guy from Michigan

Hey guys. Just joined recently. I was searching the web for info on mower racing and took an interest enough to try my hand at it. I've been working on lawn tractors and swapping parts for a few years now and have put in alot of time building mud trucks. I'm scaling down my hobbies now since my back does like wirking w heavy parts anymore.

I'll start a new thread in a bit,but I'm hoping to find some info on a mini mower that I picked up for my first build. It's a 3spd/8hp that had a small deck on it. I can't read anything on it except "Amcraft", "3spd", and "8hp". If anyone can enlighten me on this mower or point in in the right direction, it would be appreciated.  I'm looking forward to leaning as much as I can about my new hobby from the veterans of the sport. Maybe I'll be able to give back to the sight along the way.
