Driveline / Re: Peerless 820 Gear Delete

I thought there was a spacer that existed for the 700 transmissions that had keys that sat in the counter shaft keyways that would not allow the shift keys to travel further. That?s how some peerless 700s were a factory 3 or 4 speed even though the cases and countershafts accommodate 5 gears. Would be straightforward to build your own with a piece of tube cut to length of the same thickness of the gears you?re removing then weld in keys to ride in the counter shaft keyways to stop the shift keys from being able to travel further.

That doesn?t sound right, but you can get a steel ring gear from EC, maybe the previous owner had them stacked?

This is a great site. I wish more people would post stuff on here. With all the great information on here, I?d hate to see it disappear?

Vertical shaft or horizontal shaft engine? If it?s horizontal I guess you could have a belt clutch to a jackshaft and then chain to your rear axle? If it?s vertical use a belt clutch normally like a mower would have to your gearbox then chain to rear axle? What ideas did you have? What do the other racers do?

Negrey.

You don't say which transaxle you are wanting to use, but I just Posted information on the Peerless 820 and MST transaxles.  You might want to check them out.

Briggs Flathead / Re: cool bore piston

25&28 have different stroke cranks but same bores. Boring and sleeving to fit a 31 piston in your 25 might only put you at 28cid anyway. Finding a complete engine might be easier and cheaper to cut grass.

Driveline / Transaxle gearing
« on: March 25, 2020, 12:17:28 am »
Gearing options when using a transaxle, Right now I'm setup with a near 1-2 ratio input and 12-1 in top gear to get a total ratio of 6-1. I found another transaxle that had top gear 6-1, (I'm pretty sure) So to achieve the same crank to axle ratio I can go 1-1 on pulleys, Other than the two things that came to mind of benefit, that I can run a significantly smaller engine pulley and my transaxle input will not be over driven.

Is there anything else to be gained from this gearing? any feel differences? any reasons why the overdrive is a better option?

Thanks
