Driveline / How much gear oil in an 820 peerless
« on: June 12, 2012, 12:03:50 pm »
Changing oil in our little racer with a 820 peerless & for the life of me can't remember how much gear oil to put back in it. We use Lucas oil. We have a fill hole in the top so we don't have to pull the tranny & split it, unfortunatly can't see well enough to see the level inside. Just wondering if anybody knows off hand how many ounces it takes to fill the bottom case halve (or a little below)?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 31/33 AVS crank specs
« on: November 02, 2011, 12:29:05 pm »
Anyone know if there is a difference in journal sizes, stroke etc... between the 31 & 33 avs cranks. I'm wanting to have Tommy D. balance another full pressure crank for me but can't find another 31 with one in it. I know alot of the newer 33 avs's have them but didn't know if mag,rod & pto journal's and stroke were the same. If the 33 crank will work in the 31 it will make my life easier!!

Thanks in advance!!

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 31 avs magnesium piston part #?
« on: October 11, 2011, 05:12:38 pm »
I've found OEM part numbers for 28avs & 33avs magnesium pistons but can't find a number for a 31avs magnesium. If anyone knows if they exist I'd appreciate the part number, In fact if there is one I'd also like the part number for a .010 & .020 over. Thanks in advance for any info you have!!!

Here's the question of the year, has anyone got ahold of Rocket Ron's lately. Several of us have been trying (alot!!!!) with no luck. A bunch of us need his brass weights for the avs motors quickly but can't make contact. Has anyone out there used these and if so are there any other changes that have to be made. We are in a stock motor class, ALL STOCK, but our association is making a rule change to allow eliminating the avs balance system because they break and we can't find any 31synchro motors to use anymore. The goal is to keep cost down and keep the motors as close to stock as possible. Does anyone know if anybody else has brass weights for 31avs motors or a better way to get ahold of Ron? All help, guidence and good accurate information will be greatly appreciated! Remember when replying, no billet rods, aftermarket pistons, cams, etc. Just eliminate the avs balance system as economical as possible to make them run and not break. Thanks a ton!!!

Having a problem with Rocket Ron's Roller Rockers. They are physically bigger than stock rockers so the valve covers won't fit (they hit the rockers). Anybody running his rockers and if so, what did you have to do to make it work? I would love to ask Rocket Ron himself except he hasn't answered his phone in almost 2 weeks (many, many attempts have been made), we got an order from him but it was short parts and have tried to call him dozens of times, emailed him from his website with no response, I'm not sure what is going on with him so if anyone knows please enlighten me. Please don't respond unless you know what your saying is accurate, there is too much speculation and guessing on these forums. Input and advice is given and taken with great sincerety but if the information in incomplete or in-accurate it can cost people valuable time and money (see my 31avs breakage/fix post). Sorry for ranting, just one of those days when nothing works the way it was supposed to.

Briggs OHV & Vanguard / 31 AVS balancer breakage/fix?
« on: February 24, 2011, 11:51:12 am »
So many diff. opinions, so little time to evaluate them. I want to know the best fix to my 31avs to make sure I dont have problems with the avs system. Our rules on motor mods are very specific and limited. (you can review them at: www.pukwanamowerracing.com., look under the Modified class engine rules ) No porting/polishing of any sort. We can shave the head for "proper seal  ".  Any internal part must me OEM from briggs, no billett this or aluminum that. Doesn't matter what motor it came out of, as long as we can order it from Briggs as an oem part.  Ive been told to put an old style 28 crank in it with a bushing in the pan. If that's the best fix, will any 28 crank work and if not, exactly what do I need to get it together? Does putting the different crank in change anything as far as stroke or anything else that would effect power? Is there a non avs 31 or even 33 crank that would work and make more solid power or is the smaller 28 crank better because of less rotating mass? I am not an engine guy so please don't overwhelm me with technical info. Part numbers/links/etc will be very much appreciated! Side note, what carb would you suggest (Walbro model #). Maybe George H. can tell me which one they have would work the best and still be legal. We are currently in the build stage of the chassis and will have to be ready for test-n-tune by April 30 so I really need to get moving on this. Thank you a ton!!!!! in advance for your values advice!!
