Briggs Flathead / Re: 46 oppy big bore pistons

What Paul said
3 9/16 bore 31 cube pistons are the same size but appear to be dished
Seems to me that would take the 7:1 compression and make it
4:1 or something

I need some for a puller, must use stock Briggs
pistons up to .030 over. Listed as no longer available
from Briggs. Funny you can still buy the block.

See if it works better by partially choking it- if so you may need
to clean the carb out.

there was a club in the Fryeburg area, not sure if they're still going or not.
We're pulling in Milton NH this weekend at Mi-Te-Joe's campground (Sat. at 9:30)
Not too far from Rochester NH area.

Briggs Flathead / Re: briggs model numbers
« on: September 08, 2014, 06:16:54 pm »
The first two digits of the model number is your CID.  Horsepower rating isn't something that's consistent.  Sears may have put 12-1/2 HP where Lowes only put a 12 hp sticker for the EXACT motor.
This is why Briggs got in trouble.
There is a thread here somewhere that explains the numbering system for the Briggs engines.

Kohler Engines / Re: Magnum twin question

That's what I thunk.  A fellow puller has a 15 in his Cub, was wondering if it's worth
playing with or not.  I won quite a few events the last 2 years with an 18,
good stout engine.  Takes very little to make them sing.

If you use the stock crank and pistons you will have to get the stock
length rods.

Kohler Engines / Magnum twin question
« on: August 25, 2014, 05:09:43 pm »
What's the difference between the 15,16,17 and 18 HP Magnums?
Mostly found in Cubs. I can't find much info on the lower hp engines.
Just wondering if they cut the throttle back like the 18 Commands,
or went further.

they call them a filter adapter, if you ask for a velocity stack the person
you talk to might get confused.  happened to me the first time I
ordered one.

E.C. has a velocity stack for the oppys that doesn't plug the vents off.  Takes
the 2 7/16 K&N filter.

There will be a bunch of material removed in line with the rod journals
for clearance if it's the 46 long stroke block.  Need room to clear
the angled rods.

I bet you can just take the #s off the bearings and go to a bearing
supply company- those old tractors didn't use anything special for the
most part. Seals are available at any auto parts store, use goop
for gaskets.
