Briggs Flathead / Re: looking to build my 28

either crank will fit the block, the crank that has the nut also has the accentrics that can easily be removed to add the arc brass weights and do away with the stock briggs synchro-balance which has a bad habit of not staying in the block when you crank these engines to the moon!!
was gonna add that both your engines are the same, one of them could be equipped with the up-dated rod, which is not a bad rod if you are on a budget,

Chassis / Re: Quick disconnect steering wheel hub

It's not worth it.  Bolt'em on!
i agree, only reason i use them is its easier to buy a quick release hub than it is to build one, plus they perty aluminum, i usually drill two holes in the steering wheel half and use set screws to secure them to the other half

a 12 would typically be a 28 cube engine, look on the engine tag, first 2 numbers will be the cubic inches, a 11 horse or 25 cubic inch engine has a smaller stroke and the block has a shorter deck height....

« on: October 12, 2011, 11:30:08 pm »
a magnesium piston is still available for the 28'' briggs and used in alot of mower racing engines, so yes they hold up fine...was reading through this thread, im not sure a magnesium piston was ever available for a 31'' briggs, not sure on that tho!

timing should be checked with a light regardless of what hub us used, personally i wouldnt worry what hub i had, just check the timing with a light and degree wheel and forget about using a key in the hub, but do like the others and dont get carried away with the timing

another thing to do...find a local club with whom you will be racing with, most clubs have a beginner class that can be super cheap to race in, and just as much fun as the fast classes...Jerb
