My name is Morgan, am 25, from Canada and definitely a hillbilly
Have thought long and hard and these are my plans
2" channel chassis-----7ft long by 18 inches wide
engine, 540cc Yamaha 2 cylinder fan cooled sled engine
chain drive to a solid axle.
Front tires from a 70's kawasaki KV75
Rear tires, 13x8" mags with 215/50/13's on them, 21 inch circumfrance.
this sketch/computer aided drawing is what I have in mind,
I am beginning the the build to day with the frame.

The only question is...what are you going to do with it..??
-
drag race it of course lol! ;)
Got the main part of the chassis done, the engine mounted, and the front end done today

gotta see this when its done! :woo:
-
My one buddy who is 18, just about crapped his pants when he came into the shop, first thing he says is, "you're gonna let me drive this right!!?!?" Ha ha, I was happy to hear that, he helped out with mocking the engine and making mounts.
-
ill drive anything with 4 wheels.
-
need some input for the the rear drive, It will be belt driven from the primary to secondary clutch of course, but from the jackshaft to the next jackshaft then to the axle, should I use chain or a belt? A couple of my friends have said one or the other. I was thinking #40 chain, or should I go heavier? Or would a good v-belt do the job with a very tight spring tensioner on it as well?
Look forward to learning from you pros lol, I am young and willing to hear all ideas and knowledge from you

cant wait to see the end result
-
#40 chain.
-
Id say the 40 chain for durability over the belt on the rear axle. Not to mention sprockets will be easier to change over pulleys.
-
that is what I figured, is one row of #40 going to be enough or should I use double #40
-
I think one would be plenty but if I were worried about the chain size then id step up to 50 chain. I think the 40 will be plenty.
-
just gotta get some more pillow blocks, bearings, hubs, sprockets, and chains. Looking forward to testing this girl out. I used an online MPH calculator and am still not sure what I should have for sprockets.
The engine will run from 6000 to 7000 RPM
the final ration on the sled clutches is 1:1
My tires are 21 inches in diameter
if I run a 1:4.8 sprocket ratio I will have a top speed of 78MPH to 91MPH
that kind of scares me haha :woo:
haven't really figured what length of track I will be racing on, what is the standard length, heck I might be doing 1/8 mile, I am unsure as of yet
-
before its all said and done you will be regearing.
-
ya I figured I might start with a 1:6 ratio or something in that ball park
-
that sounds better.
