It's really not the strength of the chains that you need to woory about. Good 35 chain is just as strong as the 40 chain most of us run. The problem with 35 is the pitch. If you have a short chain run and keep the adjustment perfect you will most likely not have a problem. Longer chain runs have a tendancy to bounce off of the idlers and then they break. That is where the 40 chain with its deeper pitch comes into play. I have ran both sizes and I have never had a chain break from the torque of the engine. I know alot of high HP BP's, FXS's, and FXT's that run 35 with no problem.
