What motor are you building the flywheel for and what are you using for the magnet? Just wondering because it looks a lot like the one I had buit for my mower
-
I would say the vanny as thats whats in the first pictures.
-
seems like allot of machine time and labor to get a flywheel that is made for that engine already.
-
Not when you check dollar conversion rates plus international shipping plus duty taxes and getting stuff thru customs etc etc he may have a few dollars compared to the end price possibly
-
well i certainly wouldnt like doing all that just to save myself from dealing with an international order.....you cant tell me that in the end, he saved himself any money.
-

And miss all the fun of making it yourself? What fun is that???
-
What are tires? size make etc.?
-
Jim if he has his own shop and gets material cheap enough or has it left over its nothing but time involved. Maybe he doesnt save money but you gotta admit being able to spin up your own parts is pretty cool.
-
very true George, i never thought of it that way.... :dunno:
-
Some European countries really tax the heck out of stuff coming in from the US!
I recently shipped a tractor to Norway, the guy ended up paying $200 in different import fees and taxes, and I gave him the tractor!
-

I was on my lap top and didn't see the first pics they take to long to load using a sprint card

I made mine from a drop at a local aluminum wholesaler 9" dia 3.5 thick $30.00
I have a lathe and a bridge port. I'm still working on it but I got way more time than money
and I like building everything if I can

was that billet aluminum or what alloy? around here a chunk of billet aluminum that size wouldnt be that cheap, if you could even find a "drop" that size. there is alot of stuff i would do myself if i had the machine to do it, but i still think this is one thing i would buy. :D
-
Some people like to build there own parts.

It is Billet. That price may not be available to everyone they are a regular customer of mine and I may have got a discounted price. But the drops are way cheeper than cuts. I paid just over scrap price for it.
Ok enough I don't want to hijack this thread ;)
-
Yes,when you have the machine it's very interesting to make your parts ! in france there is no parts for this stuff !!
But this week i found an electronic ingnition, you can drive the time advance with your computer !! it's amazing
See you later :D

Oh yes... I can remember one exploding in my lap on my FX... Never thought I would stand up on a mower before, but the fan let lose and hit me in my lap and I sang in a higher note for a little bit.
Never trusted those things after that!
-
Hey,some parts build today.
I make my manifold intake for 2 carburator KEIHIN with SOLIDWORKS then i print with a 3D printing.
Just model for casting (aluminium)
Look some pictures :)

solid work
-
What compression ratio is it? I see you didn't " O " ring the heads
-
i ran 14.5:1 comp all yr no issue with no o rings in my vanny
-
My compression ratio is 9:1, (not big )
I make my head gasket with a sheet of brass.

What is the best ignition timing for a vangaurd 16Hp ? 30 ° ?
i put an ignitech ignition ,it's tunable !
Thx
-
You do not want to go higher than 30*BTDC if running gas. If methenal/alky then 40-45* works well.
-
Iv got a question what kinda carb are you using for your vanny?
-
Keihin VP (x2)
-
Well im running round slide keihin carb so far its good but i got feeling for this OHV single im be expending the main jet collection. So far i probly 10 different sizes of jets. Just remember that in fall in winter it will probly be different jet then what you were running in the summer.
-
how did your flywheel come out? i am looking at getting a rotary table for my mill. i dont know if i will get a 6 inch or a 10 inch. 2 flywheel builds will pay for it. it will be a vertical and a horizontal in one so i can bore v-twin motors.

If you have a full size mill, I would go larger, rather than smaller.
Also make a note of the ratio. Older ones tend to be 40:1, newer can be 90:1.
-
I use rotary table just to drill the hole every 30° for fix adjustable hub,but now i use an electronic ignition adjustable 8).
So i can adjust timing with a software,rev limter too,etc ... very interesting ! >http://www.ignitech.cz/english/aindex.htm
Lot of work for nothing today :omg:
